fishinchicks
Only a small portion of the cigarette butt is paper. The filter does not break down. We help with an Adopt a Highway cleanup a couple of times a year. It is amazing what gets tossed into the ditches. There are a ton of beer bottles and beer cans, pop cans, cigarette butts, fast food wrappers, and things you would never imagine people throw. Have a garbage bag or can in your car, and empty it in a gas station garbage, or take it home. It would be nice if we didn't have to have the twice a year garbage collections! youngie22
Big G- get a clue! Not bashing smokers... Just the ones who don't care about their surroundings. The small amount of paper in a "butt" may breakdown within a few days or weeks. But, how long does it take that synthetic foam filter to breakdown and not cause a health risk to birds and other animals? Come on folks... if you don't consider it littering, and don't think anything is wrong; then put them on your car and boat floor. I am sure they will look just as nice there as in our landscape. This isn't rocket science here... I know a few first graders that think it is a no brainer.

Well said, I may have to quote you in the future if you don't mind!

AWH
I remember reading in an outdoor magazine a number of years ago where they found 20+ cigarette butts in the stomach of a trout. Draw your own conclusions on this one....Aaron

youngie22
It does for crappies and panfish. I know a guy that brags that how he catches them on his lake near Emily. And I have seen them hit it.

AWH
Ha! I figured that's the direction that comment would go. Another way to look at it would be the fact that these cigarette butts were just sitting in this trout's stomach. No break down of these butts even with the stomach acids hard at work.Aaron
The_Duckslayer
Yeah, it is a sad thing! The trout would have died eventually I suppose if the cotton took up all the room in it's stomach. That would be pure and simply a waste of game. Have a good one and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
slipperybob
Talk about littering! Yeah, my fishing buddies smoke and they do litter those cigarette butts. I generally tell them to quit polluting. I was just fishing last night, a boat went speeding past by, next thing I say was a big 40oz glass bottle of Jack Daniel floating in the river.Plus I sure hate about those fisherpeeps who litter their old fishing line all over the banks. If you fish and snag, snap your line, don't go unspooling the rest of that junk throwing it and respooling new line. It's really bad when I start dragging bird nests of that stuff when I walk.
