Check out this link it shows how easily your can get hacked with your online transactions. Keep your Anti Virus upto date and be very cautious about what you install on your PC. And never go to a site listed in an email and give any info about any of your banking type of accounts or any personal info for that matter.

It may not have anything to do with open water fishing, but it is a good reminder to those who shop online. Maybe you are getting ready to make a big purchase of new fishing equipment from one of the major online outdoor retailers and you could use a reminder to make sure you have updated your antivirus software. Just someone trying to help out.

I put it in this forum for visibility. And like Polarsusd81 said it's something that we all need to think about every now and then.

If it doesn't pertain to you disregard it and don't read it.

YET, just remember that these hackers are hitting the machines that are out there more than others, meaning as soon as they figure out that Mac's are underprotected and are there just as much as the normal pc, you will be a target. I hope you have some plans of back up.

Having spent my entire career in the Computer Systems Development (40) industry I can only say: If the hackers and creators of viruses would put their time and energy into productive development efforts they would be satisfied and financially rewarded far better than the life they are living.

It is not only virus, spyware and malware that are the problems. The problem could be a site you are connected to. If a site gets hacked you can be redirected from a secure site a non secure site(be sure that you always at a https:// not an http:// when doing anykind of online ordering.

Also don't go to any site that you are referred to be an email and give out any kind of personal info. I have seen a couple of pretty real looking sites that some of our staff got referred to.
