Anyone see the In Fisherman Blue Cat's article?

Anyone check out the Blue Cat fishing article from the latest issue? It is my Dad's best friend who moved to SC a few years back from SD. They are using planer boards and surface fishing with floats for big Blues. He taught me this techhique a few years back and it works great for Flat's and Channels that are feeding on suspended shad or bait fish. I thought it was crazy techniques 15 years ago but you cannot argue with the results if done right. When everyone else is complaining about the slow bite these techniques still put cat's in the boat. If you haven't seen it,it is worth checking out and adding to the arsenal. It shows the rewards for thinking outside the box.

Tim

I have often wondered about using a planer board to deliver baits out into a river from shore. Using a rivers current you should be able to drop baits from a release after it reaches the desired area.

The planer board would need its own rod/reel to retrieve it but long distance and precision placements of baits should be worth the trouble.

Whip yourself up a homemade version similar to Riviera type and give it a whirl, you may just like it! Enough current in the particular river and you can present lures and/or spinners with bait off of them nicely too.

Robby- I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as the current is swift enough to pull the boards to the desired spots. I'm really going to start working on these techniques this summer to refine them. How's the cattin in OH lately? If it already hasn't started it won't be long..

Today I put on the rain suit and went after some cats. I landed 7(my best went 8lbs)My 2 buddies combined for 7 with the biggest going 14.5...Hands wet and cold, feet soaked, but I'm glad I made it out.

Robby, I really enjoyed reading the article about you. Seeing the fish you have posted in the past I knew you must have "put your time in". The tidbit about 8 straight days without a run and then your reward, confirmed by beliefs grin.gif

Great job congrats!
