help on bow mount trolling motor thrusts

Badger_55

Question

picked up a new tiller tourny pro 170, 17' boat, I have been having people tell me to go with the 70lb with the two batts and others saying my boat will be fine with 55lb up front, difference is couple hundred bucks so wondering what you guys think, could I get the job done with a 55?

55 would probably get the job done, but you will more than likely wish in the future you had went with the larger setup. On the contrary...you will NEVER regret going with the bigger setup now if you can afford it.

The 55lb will do the job 80% of the time, but in wind, chop or current you'll wish you had the larger motor. Plus the 24v will run nearly twice as long.

Trolling motor or main motor you'll never hear someone say "I wish I had less power."

Badger,

If you stick to smaller lakes and rarely fish rivers, you'll be more than fine.

If you fish out of the bow 90% of the time and hit the big waters and rivers, go with the longest shaft possible and get the 70lber. You won't be disappointed. There's nothing worse than not being able to stick to a line because wind and waves are beating you up.
