Good way to find cheap/free cupboards?

I'd like to put up some cupboards in my garage. I don't need anything fancy or even too nice. I just need something functional that will last. I'd like to find some old ones that are being replaced. I've been trying to track down some old ones that are getting replaced, but that hasn't worked so far. Basically just asking by word of mouth- no real strategy or well thought out way of tracking them down. Any suggestions for how to go about finding old ones that are still in usable shape?

There's a couple places around St. Cloud that sell used cabinets among other home furnishings. Recycling of home parts has become pretty popular, too. Check around the F/M area, there may be a similiar place.

I would call your local restoration company and see if they have any left over from a fire or water damaged home. I work on a lot of insurance jobs and we see a lot of nice cabinets get thrown away for having a little scratch in it.

Scoot, I know of some in the park rapids area, they are part of a bunch of New kitchen displays in a buisness that had a fire. they only recieved minor smoke damage (lite coating of soot)

Look on the Free Classifieds section. There are some cupboards on there right now for the taking.

This may be a long shot, but search for the Materials Management Division for the State of Minnesota. My wife has gone to their garage sale store for state surplus items and was amazed at the stuff the state doesn't want anymore.

They also have an auction scheduled for March 24 in Arden Hills, and if you ever wanted to own a former state patrol car this is your big chance. They have a bunch of them on there.
