Severed Aqua Vu Cable (Follow-up)

sticknstring

Question

Had a mishap this past weekend involving a dog and my camera cord and it's now in two pieces. Has anyone had to make a repair on theirs? I can splice it back together but am wondering what to wrap/seal it with to keep it waterproof. I emailed Nature Vision but haven't heard back yet. It's always something with me I tell ya. Any ideas?

Heat shrink tube will provide a good tight waterproof seal. Just remember to slip a piece on before starting to repair the slices. If you have enough length on the cord, stagger the connections so you don't end up with a big lump in one spot. I'd solder everything, then individually wrap each connection to avoid any contact inside the final heatshrink.

I had a post about this a couple weeks ago. I just did the follow up to it and I was slow on the reply. The cord was easy to splice, since it broke near the camera I cut the cord then I took apart the camera and spliced it inside. It has 5 wires that are color coded. I got power back but, I also had water in the lens and corrosion on the circuit boards. I have power back to the lens but a damaged board so no video.

Just wanted to follow up in case anyone else runs into a similar issue... Nature Vision called me back and told me they didn't take repairs and that I could pretty much try anything I wanted since the camera was now junk. They could ship me a new camera and cord for $100 + shipping. So I elected to make the repair myself. It wasn't the easiest fix but I got her going again. I tried getting into the circuitry but couldn't get the seal open? Not sure how you did you this Mike? It was epoxied pretty solid. So I slid on some 3/16 shrink tubing, spliced the 5 wires at the break and somehow managed to get the tubing over the spliced area and heated it up. Sealed it with a few coats of liquid electrical tape and tested it out last night. Works great once again and just in time for the weekend!

I thought the show MacGyver was off the air laugh.gif. I hope it works for you. If you ever have problems with your dishwasher an Aquaview is a great tool to see what is going wrong. Found the upper impeller was not spinning. Once that was replaced the dishes came out cleaner.

Shoot!! Just bought a new dishwasher. I could have swung an AquaView first, to make sure the dishwasher was 18 years old.... grin.gif
