TomTom is for directional guidance only. ALmost any Garmin product can do better than the TOMTOM and double as a hunting or fishing GPS

If your goal to to have something that will tell you where to turn around town then the TOMTOM is a cheaper choice with fewer bells and whistles. More options and more uses means mroe money and that would be the Garmin.

I just got a Garmin Nuvi 660 last week and have used it twice. So far I have no complaints at all, but I'm still learning. My Brother-in-law has a TomTom. He says if you change your mind and take a different route than computed the TomTom keeps telling you to make a U turn. The Garmin just re-computes a new route based on your present location.

Wife got me a Garmin Nuvi 350 for Christmas.

I use it for delicering firewood.

So far it's been pretty good, although once in a GREAT while, it will tell me something is on the left when it's actually on the right, but not too often.

I used to use the map books and it was hard at night to see street signs and house nubers. Now I just type the address in when I leave, and wha-la, I'm there.

The one thing about the points of interest though. I asked the guy from Best Buy after I used it a week or so. If I type in Best Buy, it doesn't give me all of them, only about 1/2 of them.

It's almost like certain towns, the businesses aren't listed.

He said tehy all use the same company for the points of interest, so there's no difference from Garmin to Tom Tom ot Magellan.

I haven't gotten around to emailing Garmin yet to ask them.

One time I tried to have the unit take me to Super Target in Roseville, it took me to Macys at Rosebale Center. However with houses that I've tried to deliver wood to, it's always brought me to them.

I can type in the address for Best Buy in Rosebille, but I cannot look up "Best Buy" and click on the Roseville store, it just lists stores in Blaine, Brooklyn Park, Edina, Bloomington, almost like the east side is not entered.

The closest accuracy that the unit has said it's good for, that I've seen so far, is 18'.

Quote:

You could go to Garmin's
HSOforum
and see if they have an updated POI file you can download.

Bob

Already did that, thinking the same thing, but it didn't change anything. Also, there ARE different "updates" I did do.....
