Computer Fans in Portables

I decided I am going to put a computer fan in my otter lodge to bring all that heat back down. I picked up 2 of them but I think I will only use 1. Has anybody done this? If so, how did you mount them? I figured I didnt want to screw them directly to the pole because that would hinder the airflow as it would be too close to the canvas. Any thoughts?

I just went out there and held it up just like you screwed it on. I will probably end up just doing that. One thing I noticed is that the fan howls much more when it is closer to the canvas. But I will probably just live with it because it is easy to mount it this way. I did see this pic in the portable mod post but wasnt sure if I wanted to go this route. Thanks!

Kmart sells a northwest territory tent fan with 2 speeds and a LED light for $12.99.Runs on 2 D cell and a couple nickle

sized 2032 batteries for the LED. Even has a convertible hook setup on it so you can use it as desk fan or hang it. Works great in my Frabill trekker. Then again, have only used it once when it was cool enough to use. Lately, haven`t even needed heat with the way the weather has been acting. :

I bought C clip's for my otter and screwed the fan to it. That way I can mount it wherever and at different angles. I also had a LED lighting system mounted the same way. Go to the otter HSOforum and they are under fishing accessories.

Target has a Coleman tent fan with 2 speeds, and two light modes. Main light-four white leds, night light-one amber led. I hung it on the pole above my head in the center of my frabill, works great for lighting my table I made and moves alot of air. It's quiet also. I believe it was $20-$25, so it's not cheap but works great, runs on four d cell batts. I do like the computer fan idea though.

I'd like to second jiffy's recommendation.

I bought two of these (one for my fishin' buddy) on recommendation from another fishin' buddy. The fan blades are not "hard", they are some sort of soft fiber that runs quiet and uses less juice. Word has it (actual experience here, not spec sheet) that they will actually run 48 or so continuous hours on low setting.

I am planning on using one in my clam 5600 on a couple of overnights. Previously, I would have the typical problem: heat in the upper reaches of the shelter; cold (frost on the lower walls) on the lower regions. The light is a nice bonus, and has a seperate switch (and 2 settings: regular and nightlight{orange}), so you can choose whether or not to use it. Easily hung from any cross support with a carabiner, chain, or using the magnetic mounting hardware supplied, I think this may be the ticket inside on those frosty winter nights (if we get any grin.gif).

I will let you know what happens.
