Snowblower carb question?

mnhunter2

Question

I have an ariens snowblower, older model that hasn't been used much, that starts okay runs fine at full throttle but wants to pulse when you idle it, clean but it hasn't been used much in the 5 years or so do you think I could get it to run better by running some sea foam or carb cleaner through the fuel system or do I have to tear it apart and clean the carb up?

What it will need is a quick little adjustment with the fuel air mixture. Somewhere on the carb there will be a screw that you use to adjust the mixture.

Get the blower warmed up and then bring it down to idle and let it sit for a bit. Then start adjusting slowly in either direction. When you go the right way, it will start to sound better.

Good luck

not like you need the darn thing too much anyway..

Did it sit with gas in it for extended periods?

Is it a tecumseh?

I am going to assume it's a tecumseh beings most snow blowers use them. If it is you can take the bowl off and there will be a brass tube running down towards the bottom of the bowl. There should be some small holes in the side of the brass tube, take a twist tie from a loaf of bread and peel it back to the bare wire and clean the holes out.

Good luck.

Hunting is real common on Tecumseh motors. Does running it with partial closed choke improve it. I rebuilt my carb and cleaned it twice and could not get it to stop hunting. Finally bought a new carb and that took care of it. I was told there is a valve inside the carb that is suppose to rattle when you shake it. If it dont rattle it is gummed up and it cant be fixed. Pretty stupid design.
