Trap link qustion BEWARE might be a dumb qustion

ok i bought a yukon and my buddy has a 5600 we trap linked them togher today outside and worked great but now we have a qustion since it is just one big shack now do we each still need a shelter tag

Yes you each need one I believe.

I would e-mail the DNR and find out for sure. I think it is kind of a gray area in the regulations. When they are connected they are one essentially one house so I would contact them just to be sure.

I agree,contact DNR.Might fall into an ownership catagory.If you own both,and they are linked they become one,then I would think one shelter tag would suffice.But if you have two owners,one each you should probably have two tags.This sounds to sticky not to check first.

Why don't you both get one. That way you will not have to worry. Some CO's see the laws differently than others. I assume you both wont be fishing together all the time, right.

I'm pretty sure you only need one Tag as long as they are zipped together.

I would suggest each having a shelter tag though.

Good question. I own a 5600 and am going to buy a Yukon. I did not plan to buy two tags.

To me the cost of an additional shelter tag is worth not worrying when you see the warden coming towards your house.

Another thing is on page 59 of the fishing regs it says:

-No person may erect a dark house, fish house, or shelter within 10 feet of an existing dark house, fish house, or shelter.

Does that mean you can't link houses with anyone including someone you know?

The 10' rule is the first thing I thought of when I saw the trap-link. I never thought of needing more tags. Interesting thread. It looks like more judgement calls for the CO's until it spells it out specifically in future reg books.

I have a related question regarding shack license.....Say I borrow my house to a friend. I have a shelter tag for the house but is my friend ok using my house and shelter tag or do I need to be present??????

You don't need to be present.

As long as any shelter being used has a valid tag, no matter who is using it, it's legal.
