Daze Off
Anyone seen any new baits that are "must haves" for the next fishing season? Not sure how new it is but had not seen the Yum Dinger forktails until recently. I'm sure there will be some of those that find their way into my boat come spring.Any others?Daze Off
Central Bassman
Gulp Shaky Head Worms... a must have for the finesse guys!!!
Daze Off
Not exactly a "bait" but Gamakatsu is coming out with a hook (Skip Gap) made specifically for skipping under docks (prevents plastic from riding down) and another EWG with solid ring through eye to tie to and get more action on stickbaits and jerkbaits.Daze Off
Central Bassman
GYCB has a new swimming senko that is out!!??
Superduty
Am I the only one, or do any of you guys buy all the newest most hyped tackle each spring only to fall back on the old reliables that you know produce fish. Seems I end up with a pile of new unused "gotta have" baits each year. Maybe I'm just stubborn.
Central Bassman
Yea sometime and alot of times for me its crankbaits. every year i go got and get more and some of the "must have ones" and end up never useing them!!! Thats one thing im bad at and its cranking!!!
delmuts
i'm more conservative.( or cheap! ) i usually buy only a couple of the new things each year.( and that is usually plastics, hooks, or jigs) plus restock my basics. i will give some "new" line a try too. RK
Hiya - I'm not quite as in tune with the bass market as a lot of the hardcore bass guys, but I have seen a few things that I think I'm going to like...Berkley Flicker Shad - These things were actually designed by Gary Parsons and Keith Kavajecz as walleye cranks but I got some when they came out at the end of last year, and they're awesome smallie cranks. Shaped like a shad rap, maybe a little fatter, with a harder wobble and a rattle. Perfect sizes - #5 and #7, and heavy enough to cast them on a spinning rod pretty well. Can't wait to get them in front of smallies on LoTWs next spring.Berkley Beast - Again, came out at the tail end of last season technically. They're a flat sort of mud flap creature. They skip really well, and I can't wait to flip them in the rushes next June. Big, bulky target and they fall nice and slow.Northland Slingshot Bullet Weight - I peg sinkers a lot when I'm fishing the rushes in northern MN, and it's always kind of a pain. The Sling Shot weight is almost like a bullet-shaped rubbercore. Can move it up for Carolina rigging, and it won't chew up the line like toothpicks or the plastic like screw in weights, and it's a lot easier than threaders. They really look slick. Cheers,Rob Kimm
st.crioxfishin
CentralBassman,I have the same problem as you, I buy crankbaits in the offseason trying to convince myself to use them more often, and it always fails. I find myself going back to what I usually use.
Central Bassman
Yea, I think im goin to make my self fish them this next year. Im only goin to take 2 or 3 rods out with only crankbaits in my boxs. Hey RK Them BEAST are a great spring time lure, I used them all years long and but in the spring is where i had the best luck with them.. Happy Holiday Everyone.... friendlyfisher
Those hardnose psycho worms look awsome. Thats all I need are more senko type worms. At last count I had almost 1,000 senko style baits total. Now Im sure Im closer to 1,200. I think I have a problem, my wife also thinks I have a problem, cause ever week or two I get another package in the mail and she knows its more worms. OH well. Central Bassman
Whats is that Skip Gap hook suppost to do??? Yea them mud kits do but i still think the paca is alot better. have to give them a try!!!
TwoBear
The Skip Gap hooks are supposed to hold your plastics up on the hook when you are skipping under docks - so your plastics don't bunch down.TwoBear
st.crioxfishin
I'm not for sure on this, but from looking at the hook I believe it looks like its supposed to maybe lessen the friction of the hook and bait skipping on the water. With the EWG on the hook not sticking out so much because of the bend the hook and bait should be able to skip better with less friction. I'm sure it may help, but from experience and watching others, it seems most anglers are already able to skip all the way under docks, trees, etc. So I don't know how much of and advantage this new hook will give. Just my opinion. I may not know what I'm talking about seeing that I have not tried it yet.
Central Bassman
What do you guys think of that swimming senko???Might not be back around docks or over weedbeds.
Daze Off
I guess I'm thinking that it is hard to improve on a very successful bait and I won't likely get any - until I'm with someone that slaughters me with them that is....Seriously though - it can't help but improve the action when you pop it but as it settles again I'm not convinced it will make a huge deal. I already carry a shoebox of those dang things with me and if one of them can't produce I doubt the little tail is going to help....Yum's "innovation" is to add a little fork tail (ala the Fluke) to their Dinger. Same deal I think.Daze Off
Central Bassman
Some more new baits for 07 from berkley: I know one of them is on here aready but here they are: > Gulp! Slim Shaky worm – Gulp! generally works better when fished slow, which is the idea behind this shakey bait. It's geared for clear water when a lighter jig's required and fish can only be caught on the "inhale." > Powerbait Chigger Craw – This new Powerbait was made with input from Mike Iaconelli, Skeet Reese and Kevin Wirth. It measures 4 inches and is perfect as a trailer, but it can also be fished weightless or on a Texas-rig. The fluttering action of the legs is especially notable. > Powerbait Fat Dover Crawler – It's sort of like a Senko, sort of like a worm – almost a throwback of sorts to vintage plastic earthworms. Made to fool pressured fish. > Powerbait Wacky Crawler – When the fish have seen every worm coming straight through the water, it might be time to go wacky, which is where this bait comes in. Good along bottom, over structure, and along nothing banks.
