Lowrance IFinder H2O Questions

TeddyBoy

Recommended Posts

My wife bought me the Ifinder for my birthday. I am planning to purchase the MN LakeMaster chip to go along with it. I would also like to use the GPS for basic roadmapping/driving directions. What does everyone use for roadmap software on their H2O? Additionally, I'd rather not have to switch out chips for different software types. Can I download the roadmap software and use the LakeMaster chip as well? I see that Lowrance has MapCreate software with a USB cable but is that what I want? Does the LakeMaster chip have enought road detail? Lot's of questions for ya...

I'm new to GPS technology and appreciate any info or recommendations.

Thanks!

If you just want basic road mapping then you dont have to buy anything. It comes with a USA map that is pretty accurate.

You might have to go into the menu on the GPS and turn on Roadmaps though.

Hey Teddy,

I have an IFinder H20 and this past weekend I bought the Lakemaster chip. That chip comes with great Minnesota roads on it as well. But if you wait to buy the new lakemaster chip you will not get the road/map feature with it, because they had to save some memory on it so they took off the road portion on the lakemaster. In my opinion the road/streets works great on it.

Thanks for the quick replies. Maybe I'm missing something or I need to turn a menu on or something like what Farley said...When I look at what the unit came with, it only shows major highways and that's it. I'd like to at least be able to identify roads around my house or other areas of interest. If you know what I'm doing wrong let me know.

Thanks again!

Teddyboy-

Your Lowrance GPS unit does have a base map with highways, although they are very limited. I highly doubt roads around your house will be on the basic highway map.

However, my Lakemaster MN chip (which is last years edition) has every single state highway, county highway, city street, and cul-de-sac shown on the map. Its pretty sweet!

I use my GPS in my truck all the time because of the road map on the Lakemaster chip. You can even scroll down city streets and locate addresses. It will not give you turn by turn directions to a destination, however. You'll need an automotive specific GPS unit to have those features.

Hanson,

Your old LakeMaster chip sounds like it has exactly what I want. According to Marshall117 it sounds like the new chip won't have that detail. What are people who have the new chip doing for the road detail? I would prefer to buy the new chip because it has a few lakes that I fish that the old one doesn't have.

Thanks again!

Yep just pulled the Lakemaster chip out of mine and fired it up and it only showed highways, put the chip back in and it showed all the gravels and sidestreets not to mention my driveway.

I also have my map detail on high if that matters any. Menu\Map Data\Map Detail:High

I have the Lowrance Ifinder Hunt, basically the same as a H20. The units come with the basic highways like you guys said, unless you buy the plus package which includes the MapCreate software with pc cable and sd card. Then you get all the detailed roads for the whole U.S. It shows the lakes also but no depths like the Lakemaster does.

I bought the plus package or did i get that cd from a friend.. shhh..

Can anybody confirm that the New Lakemaster Chip does not have the Mapcreate base map like the Old LakeMaster Chip.

I find this hard to believe if true.

True dat! Who's got the new chip???

From Lakemaster's site:

Quote:

The LakeMaster® ProMap Minnesota 2007 chip is plug & play, which means you simply insert the chip into your Lowrance unit, turn it on, and the lakes automatically appear on your screen. It's that simple. The 2007 chip is loaded with an amazing 744 lakes of which 79 are high definition LAKEMASTER/PROMAP lakes. That's 20 new ProMap lakes and over 500 new DNR lakes with contours.

The chip is feature packed with: highly detailed road map, thousands of points of interest, state and wildlife management areas, parks, and hunting zones. The chip also features fast redraw and zoom levels to .03 miles.

Dont know what you mean by "like mapquest would have" but yes you can map out a route on a H2O, sort of.

You can definetly type in an address and it will bring the screen right to it, give you your distance away, your speed, bearing and all that stuff but the thing about the H2O's is that it only reads it as a straight line between two points, not going by roads. So say you're going to Woody's on Rainy Lake from your home in Minneapolis, you can have your starting point be your house and your destination point being Woody's, but IFinder will only draw a straight line between the two points and that's what all your information will be based on.

Now, if you had time on your hands you could map out the whole trip turn by turn by adding waypoints at every turn, and you can even set an alert so when you get a mile, half mile, quarter mile etc.. away from that turn, it will sound a beep alerting you and you can also set it so that if you go offcourse by a set distance it will also alert you and then you can save all these waypoints as a single route (so they wont show up when using it for something other than that route).

Route planning on a lake is much easier though since you are dealing with straighter lines over shorter distances.

Maybee someone else has figured out a better way to plan routes with them but that's as far as I've gotten with mine. Hope this helps.

I read that also Ralph sounds like it's on the New Card , let's hope the poster above is wrong.

was just at Thorne bros doing a little recon for my early x-mas present. They have a special combo with the h2o and the lakemaster chip. only they said it was the 2005 chip and didn't know about any 2007 chip? So what gives? also if there is a 2007 chip is there a updated list of all the lakes. I fish mostly the park rapids area and the big pond during softwater and the north metro/cambridge area during hard water. I was leaning toward navionics to get better all around lake coverage, but was really impressed with the map function on lakemaster.

I thought it might be helpful to share some of the research I've done on the two chips. For the 127 lakes listed in the table below: "LMP" = LakeMaster ProMap, "NHD" = Navionics High-Definition map, "+++" = LakeMaster ProMap included on the Navionics chip. Of particular note: If you are looking for the most detailed maps possible among the 104 Minnesota waters listed, 44 are only found on the LakeMaster chip, 24 are exclusively on the Navionics chip, and 36 of them are on both.

Jeez, Paul... Next time, I'm putting a little © symbol on my work! wink.gif

Actually, I'm glad my weekend research was helpful! Had some time on my hands as long as there wasn't any ice...

You can go into the Lakemaster HSOforum and get the list of lakes on the 2007 chip. It also tells you the new lakes mapped. There are 744 total lakes with contours and 79 Promap lakes. I think it will have to be my Christmas present.

Yup. And you can also go to the navionics site and find the names of the 5,087 lakes that are on their Premium North chip (59 of which are HD)... But if you want a list of LakeMaster's ProMap lakes and Navionics' High-Definition lakes compared side-by-side, you have to come to fishingminnesota. Priceless. wink.gif

thanks paul i did review that thread before. so do you have to get the lakemaster pro 07 directly from the maker? and i am assuming LMP 07 still does not have basic DNR maps of most other lakes in MN

They have added a lot more of the "DNR Maps" to this new chip. That's one reason why I am excited to pick one up. Instead of the three lakes I now have on the old version, I'll have every major lake around Hutchinson. grin.gif Check out their HSOforum for the complete list of lakes.

Any decent retailer that deals with fishing and/or GPS units should be able to sell you one.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
