IceHawk
I was wondering what everyone's favorite bird of the season so far is. I have taken alot of ducks and geese already this season and over the years I have harvested some rare birds but Black ducks are trophys for me. I harvested my second one last week and was really happy. Black ducks are very wary and rare. So takeing my second one was a real joy. There is still some season left so maybe the opportunity for another could present itself.
Fish&Fowl
Diddo on the blackduck. Got my first earlier this year, a nice big draek. Shot up too bad to mount but I don't have the money to be doing that right now anyways. Just gonna have to shoot some more. Tough job but it must be done! Dean Schellinger
Here is my prized bird of my young duck hunting life. First canvasback in 8 or so years of duck hunting and it was a beautiful drake.
Gordie
the best bird of the year so far would not be mine but my 10yr old sons first woodie made me proud to be his father. and its a bird he and I will never forget.
mnhunter2
Most prized bird for duck hunting has been the banded drake buffie I shot over the hand painted E Allen decoys I shot yesterday!!!!!
tearin' lips
It could be so many, I think that they are all prized birds, I shot a drake blackduck, drake wigeon, big drake goldeneye...but my most prized ducks this season came in early october when I found a killer spot near duluth and shot my limit of drake mallards, two of which had curls, one was a double and the other was a triple. Yep, those are definately my most prized ducks this season.
eyepatrol
I'd have to say this limit from an earlier post I made this season would have to be my prize ducks for the year. It's a toss-up between the nice drake Pintail and the big drake mallard next to it (3 curls). Although I had some other good days, being out solo on this day, seeing the ducks flying over my lunch hour and not shooting these until after the noon whistle blew, I'd have to rank this No. 1 for me. IceHawk
Alot of nice birds and stories! I had a chance at some cans on Sat but didn't succeeed only one day left. Hunted yesterday evening with only a few mallards and geese being seen. The end of Duck-hunting is near guess it's time to get ready for late season goose! Or I could always head to Arkansas for some timber mallards!!
Flick
I shot a snow in the East Metro this weekend, first one in MN. I hardly ever see them around that area so I guess thats my trophy.
slopmaster
i would have to say the drake buffelhead i snuck up on this year. it landed on the other side of the slough with 5 other ducks so i crawled on the edge of the cattails for a couple hundred yards and got about 60 yards away and shot once at it (not expecting to hit it) but my dad was sitting in our decoys on the up wind side of the slough so they got up and flew right towards him. he picked out the only drake buffelhead and shot him on his second shot. We are getting it mounted.
Born2Fish
So far this year(and I still have up to january 26th for more being im hunting in nevada)I have shot quite a few. My most prized was the nice drake pintail i took my first day out. Had a chance at a very nice redhead but forgot about the saftey being on! I have a few good pictures of the ducks we took this past weekend but not too sure how to post em. All in all we got 5 teal, 4 mallards, 1 pintail and 1 spoonie. Hoping for the opportunity at a Cin. Teal but they are pretty rare around here. Heading out to Fallon, NV in a few weeks to try and fill our Swan tags too.
