Even if you don't get drawn you can still get an archery tag, the ultimate challenge! We applied for an early season and I kinda hope we don't get draws so I have an excuse to grab an archery tag.

Deitz Man,

I was just like you in that I was only luke warm on hunting anything in the spring. But....I decided to give it a try about 6 years ago. The first morning i got out late, busted all birds out of roost and pretty much made every mistake in the book. However, I WAS HOOKED! Nothing beats hearing gobblers in the spring becuase then you KNOW something is around.

I've bagged a couple birds with the bug and now am trying with the bow. Ground blinds are awesome to hunt out of and turkeys will walk right up to them. If you intend to try to bag one with a bow you're going to want to hunt out of a ground blind since their eyesight is 2nd to none and they will bust any movement.

When is your hunt?

I hunt in Trempealeau Cty WI and is usually around 2nd week in April.

why hunt turkeys? dont! they are noisy when they gobbel when you see them in full strut at 15 yards away it could give you a heart attack! worst of all if you do not get a permit the next year you will go into depresion please do not start ! { 1 less guy to apply]

Dietz, the hunting of turkeys is very challenging and harder than those 4 legged critters. The added benifit to hunting turkeys is you can also find some Morel mushrooms while hunting them.

If you want to talk about a sport that can burn up time, then you will want to stay away from ther Turkey and Morel hunting. Yum, Yum, Morels.
