You ever just "need", and I mean "need" to get out on the ice? I'm going absolutely stir crazy right now!

Reports are starting to trickle in that Upper Red Lake has walkable ice. I was planning on venturing that way over Thanksgiving to do some odds and ends work on my permanent ice shack, like gluing down the carpet that I've had in the garage for over a year now! Now it might look like I have to bring all the fishing gear with as well just so I can satisfy that "need"!

Maybe I've brought this upon myself. I've had my ice fishing tackle boxes opened up and laying around my place for a couple weeks now. I unzipped my Stone Legacy bag to check on my babies the other day as well. The Thorne Bros rods have never looked happier! I've been e-mailing buddies and trying to schedule fishing trips locally as well as weekend trips to my ice shack. And worst of all, I just put in my vacation request at work for 7 days off around the holiday season. That means some quality time split between Lake of the Woods, Upper Red Lake, and Devil's Lake for 2 weeks straight!

I'm not sure whats wrong, I know once I fire up that auger and punch that first hole, everything will be OK again. But until then, this feeling of anxiety and nervousness is overwhelming me. Its that feeling you get when you are going on a first date. Your not quite sure what to say, act, or do, but everything works out OK in the end.

Who's with me?

Wow, we have the same symptoms. I retied all my tip-ups, started the auger, charged the batteries, cleaned out the clam and finished up the permament shack 2 weeks ago. Now I'm just sitting here in 40 degree weather praying for ice to start forming on the lakes. The doc said the cure won't be available till December. frown.gif

I'm with ya brother! I have the week off between Christmas and New Years. I have a new (to me) wheel house that's begging for a trip around that time.

Maybe we should have an adhoc Holiday on-ice get together on URL or LOW?

If that all comes down like I planned, I MIGHT make it to the middle to end of Dec!!! And if the ice aint here in Montana by THEN, Im really gonna be in trouble!!!

My loop after the show will take me north and then west thru the state, I have to be able to find ice somwhere up there...right? RIGHT????? Just nod your heads...thats it....thats it....all better now! laugh.gif

Anytime after this weekend is fine with me!! I just don't wanna freeze in the deer stand for the last 2 days.

I'm chomping at the bit more than usual, to be honest... imagine only getting out twice last year! Of course, had I not broken the old ankle and had screws & plates put in, I woulda been out more, but it was a really tough winter for me. I can hardly wait to see the ice on the lakes... punch that first hole of the year... see the first tip-up flag.. feel the first Crappie nibble on a waxie...

Geez, I gotta stop talking like this, it's getting worse... do you think that calamine will help the itch???

Yep, I am going nuts here. I got my first taste of the colder weather with being back home for the weekend for the first time in over three months. I even woke up to snow on Monday morning! Much better than the 85-90 degree highs we are still experiencing in Florida. Yuck : Had to pop in Grumpy Old Men the other day to ease the pain.

MyVCR has been getting a workout as well. I had surgery on my right shoulder last Tuesday, so I have watched all 5 In -Fisherman ice videos, a couple others, GOM 1 and 2, and several product videos from Vex, Strike, etc etc.

Hey thats an idea for a thread, Ice fishing video movies and where to get them...

What is it about this ice that makes us all freak out. About all I can think of is how and when I'm going to plan my next ice fishing trip. I've got a load of tourneys I'm planning on attending and I'm working on a few more.

This weekend is full of open water fishing followed by getting ice fishing stuff ready during the evenings.

I need ice badly. If Harvey Lee just got his LX-5, mine is not far behind. I'm going to go absolutly bonkers once I have that until its gets its first workout. It's probably going to be waiting for me when I get home from work. Crapola yet, Heck Yeah!

My anxiety peaked last weekend when it got cold enough to freeze the water in the bird bath. I saw that ice and flipped out; faster than you could say Chubby Darter I had the Jiffy out and was turning the back yard into swiss cheese looking for active fish. I finally found crappies feeding along the outside edge of the wifes beloved variegated hostas so I set up the Yukon for the evening bite. I was snapped back into reality when the wife accosted me with a leaf blower... I've been in a self induced fishing coma since then.

I'm like the rest of you wild-eyed icemen. I've been thinking of hard water so much, I don't have much time to think of anything else. Surfing ice fishing websites, looking at new products, watching videos, fine tuning my equipment...etc...etc...etc... If it were to freeze hard tonight, it wouldn't be soon enough!

    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
    • Chef boyardee pizza from the box!
