Open Water 2006 Reports Part II

Recommended Posts

We went out at dusk last night and got 2 stragglers, looks like it will warm up again today so i'll try again tonight. Not my turn to clean fish, so I gave the 1 I got to my friend Stevie. He gave me 2 hind quarters, jerky, and a 5 lb sausage from the 4 deer he got this year, so hes gets 1/4 of the fish I give away.

I'm going to get 5k of those spikes for 30 bucks, thats a heluva deal, so something has to freeze up soon. Walleyes are good eating and all, but I am jonesing for a half of a pail of sunfish or some nice Oneida Lake crappies.

Tight lines TO Tim

Forage base change boys the last few walleyes taken have had zero shad and 3-5" perch in the bellies. Steve said a 7" perch was in the gullet of that 22". Got some business to take care of this evening and brought a Tica Cetus SS500 in for Franky to fondle.

Lee- Good luck finding a partner for the TA.

North Shore - I am sending Hendo's stuff in now to get him cleared up to access I'll let you know when I have confirmation. Thanks for the spike update, it was cool running into the Rogue Kid at the 8 Super last night. Amanda asked me who Mike was and I told her, that her Mom is the one that made the applesauce she woofed. Amanda had a big smile. Between Tank and Mo were well taken care of grin.gif Thanks guys wink.gif

Way to go Slip, Tiger Roen? Rained all day yesterday, last night and it's still raining.
frown.gif

Thanks Timmy. One on the Roan and one on the good ole Silver and Black and one on a blue and silver Reef Runner Ripstick! Talk about RAIN crazy.gif I closed my office early yesterday and got the boat on the water at 4pm and fished til 7pm. It was pretty brutal out, temps low 30's and it just rained and rained and rained some more. I couldn't keep my gloves dry and it was hard to keep your hands warm but I stuck it out long enough to put the tag down on 3 more nice eyes. Not as big as the night before but they were between 19" and 21" and all males. 2 came on the Silver Black Rouge again and one on the Tiger Roan. The 3 from Thursday night were all females confused.gif Anyway the one thing I've learned over the years is you can't catch walleyes sitting at home wink.gif I am heading to Boston in a little while and we'll be back on Sunday and I plan on fishing Christmas Day for a while and making a nice boneless prime rib roast for Christmas dinner. Had a nice fresh beer batter walleye fry last night. Merry Christmas everybody. grin.gif

Sorry about the account deal thing Timmy I just post here and north shore is better than I am with getting around that stuff.

Welcome Hendo 542 Tim x 4 (LOL) to the shanty here at FM. Tim and his buddy Scott ice fish Delta quite a bit they like to keep it on low down and we can appreciate that here right guys wink.gif

I work with Tim's girlfriend at the lab. Tim's a great guy and I got a chance to fish with him a couple of times on Delta, Morraine and Black Lake. He run's a sweet Yammy 660 Grizz the nastiest quad in the valley. wink.gif I remember telling Zecca about Tim's 660 and 6 mos. later he bought one to replace his Polaris.

Again welcome to the Shanty Hendo 542.. It's nice to add a another quality ice fisherman to the gang wink.gif This was Hendo's first fall that I can recall that he took up the fall walleye seriously, a little late I might add but I think Tim now know's why we do what we do in the fall wink.gif hope to see you out there as a regular next fall Tim...

North Shore was that you on the 23rd in waders at the bar??? Was standing before on the well? If it was you that was indeed the better place to be. A third wader came in and stood between you two guys and the shore where a guy on the shore had caught a walleye . . . he was not a happy camper.

CNY Frank: No that was not me I believe it ws Hendo. He mentioned that to me. He caught a single there but other than that it has been slow. It is amazing how guys push their way in when someone catches a fish.A good hook in the ear usually clears them out if you know what I mean. mad.gifThere has been a few fish taken a Schniebls but other than that not much action.

Managed to land a couple threesomes tonight at the bar grin.gifwink.gifsmile.gif How lucky I was.Doubled up tonight and it was exciting.Arrived at the bar at 1000 and had the point all to myself until Donny and Shawn showed up at about 11.Had my limit plus 5 throw backs at 1145 and made the trip home.Returned to the bar and lost my spot.Oh well managed to catch one more until they left at 1245 and then proceeded to catch 7 more fish. The highlight of the night was when I fowl hooked the big fish of the evening and it gave me a bit of a fight.Took some drag and some more drag. Not a net around. Sure was a great evening. Will post pics when I figure out my new camera in the am.Black and slvr challenger was the hot lure tonight.

Well same old story I waited to long to go to the lake arrived at 2 .a.m. to find myself fishing in NNW wind at about 15 mph. and fished the bar for about 20 min. without a strike and fished below the bridge to warm up and stopped at Schneibles and it was all mucked up. Glad you hit em Greg and as usual my report was dead on... wink.gif

Of course this late night fish trip could have been entirely avoided if Momma didn't grab my driver after I was already asleep grin.gif

Had to make a run for some sanity. Caffiene has kicked in now I have a reason for a headache!! I'll be down later . . know how hard Tuzz works . . .just like you. . . and me this week. Gees late night early night . . .those fish are about to drive me crazy!! Of course, unless I get my butt out there, it does no good just reading these reports. And me with all those silver and black Frenzies. Actually would have been there yesterday after work but decided to be a good guy and make dinner and what happens when everyone shows up at 5:30??? No one whats to eat!!! Arghh!! And to top it off, both women say . . "You should have gone fishing!" Now when is the last time anyone ever heard that come out of a woman's mouth???

Come on Campbell figure out the frickin camera I can't take the suspense! wink.gif Where's that 26" please smirk.gifgrin.gif

Good one on the headlamp Greg... wink.gifFrank was in the office when I read that Tuzzy and Franky chuckled.

Well boys the reports were too much to take for Gunny Greving he's about to lock down plans for a final salute to open water on Oneida this Friday. Steve and his buddy are coming up and I have that day to burn and why not. Of course the way things are going on at Campbell household I will have pictures of the trip posted Friday before North Shore figures out how to post his digital picsgrin.gif Your not the only one in that boat either Greg., Franky is camera illiterate too. grin.gif

Who am I kidding I'm just as bad as both of you guys with the camera's. grin.gifsmile.gif If it wasn't for Big Johnny Ice showing me the way I'd still be emailing pics to him to post... grin.gif

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
