Minnesota River Cat Gathering - Carver

Hey Walleye,
I would not bring a boat that size on that stretch of river unless it was a big jon.
We will have a FM banner up and you can't miss my truck with the FM logo on the side.I will also probably be wearing an FM cap and there are stickers on my boat that say FM.You can't miss me!If you can't bring your boat come anyway, there will be quite a few shore anglers there too.

If the mud isnt too deep in the water you should be ok. The Shakopee ramp is only a couple miles away and is usually in much better shape. Doesnt hurt to have a look. Im sure there will be several boats going out that will push some mud out of the way for you.

I'm coming!!!!! Fishead, do you have room to take me out in your boat for a while before I settle in on shore next to the "smartfire".

It will probably be 2 or 3pm before I can get there, but I'm pumped! Dark, I had a local restruant save me some corks, so I think I'm set.

See ya then!

See ya...

Glad to hear you can make it Sarge! Ya, its kinda nice...Every bottle of wine comes with a free bobber!

No problem spotting fishhead with all that FM stuff....Maybe after a few beers, He'll show us the new tattoo! eek6.gif

The ramp in Chaska should be good if Carver is too muddy...We'll see. I think I'm gonna fish from shore and keep it simple. Theres a nice sand bar just up from the tressle with a creek coming in...Might even have to try and fool a walleye or two! We'll have a nice moon too if its not cloudy.

How did everyone else do ?

The closest thing I had to action was a Fire Fly at the end of the night that had its heart set to be intimate with the light on the tip of my rod ... not exactly the *action* I needed. The time was 2:45 and the minnows were dieing of old age .. til next time...

One broken hearted Fire Fly .... no fish .... no bites .... but good company.

It was good to meet you Dark, Sarge, and Bayou ... hope we can do this again soon ... might even catch a fish? I'll bring back the can of flesh eating bug spray ... I think it detoured 3 or 4 mosquito's.

I need to go rub off the mosquito remnants on my sheets .. catch you all soon.

Well, fishing from shore was lousey, but the company was great!

How did you guys in the boats do? Geez!...The heat index at 10:30 last night was 104 degrees! I wouldn't think that would effect the fish though.

Thanks to all who came! Nothin like a River Rat initiation!

Well fishing was lousy for us too although some fish were caught.I managed to get 3 channel cats.During the day I got 2 small ones that came from snags in the main channel. If you want to talk about River Rat Initiation,Canopy Sam had me up to my knees in river mud fishing the Sand Creek mouth. It was almost theraputic(sp)having good old Minnesta mud squishing through your toes...almost!We did have a lot of action early in the night but missed most of them.Wasterwater and company got some fish and one really nice channel. How big?
Launching and loading was interesting on that launch too.Although it was not all that difficult I think I will try to find a launch that is clear and dry from now on!
I heard of an interesting story. It seems a fawn was trying to cross the river and was being swept away by the current. The cowboy that Sam is he hearded it away from the bridge and enormous snag pile in front of it.If it weren't for Sam that poor bambi would have been done for!Good on ya Sam.

It was nice to put some more faces with names and I wish I could have met every but there is always next year or heck any ole time!

Hello all; Really enjoy the get together and was glad to meet all that made it. Would like to say a special thanks to dark30 for the help and the fishing time we had. and no I did not need another tire. But when we got to Grante Fall we talked to a couple guys from Iowa and they just bought a boat and trailer. and it took them 12 hours to go a 4 hour trip. The trailer was bent or something because it keep blowing tires out. they replaced five tires just to get up there. and was not haveing any luck fishing. So being such a nice guy told them and even showed them where a 20 foot hole was and sunday morning we seen them again and they were pretty happy. they get a 27 and a 15 pound flatheads and some nice channel. So there trip turned out good. are biggest was a 7 lb channel and some smaller ones. But we sure had fun. Going to make it to St Peter again real soon. Will let you know when. maybe we can get together again.

Fishhead, Dark30, et al - Thank you for the gathering. Nice to meet so many of you at Carver there on the Minnesota River ... however none of those cats’ there wanted a free ride to WI, with me anyway - from earlier post it sounds like maybe the other Wisconsinite may have faired better. Only thing we didn’t try was chicken-liver - Walleye_GFA where did you go? Did you find fish? Like others - I‘m awaiting the additional post. Isn’t this strange? A small world too, that the two persons from WI are also originally from MT - what’s the chances of that? Well for me ... the chances were better than bringing home ‘supper’. I did miss a couple opportunities and lost about five-rigs in the snags fishing some nice runs along the shore below the trestle ... once the sun went down the only bites I got were from mosquitoes. And trying to be a nice person -I was more than happy to share them Sarge, Dark30, Joe, and Fisher Dave ... anyone but me - didn’t work but I tried. Talk about bite - those were some nice steaks that Sarge cooked up - saw him knife two mosquitoes that tried to extract a little blood from the 'chops'. Sarge is generous and willing to share with others persons ... but he drew the line at mosquitoes grin.gif

Want to thank “Wrangler Sam” a.k.a. “Canopy Sam” for the wild west show there driving that deer under the trestle and up the sand bank across river from where I was fishing, good job Sam. Catfish1 had the fish-finding pup with them, apparently the ‘pup’ was on target. Hope those Iowa boys appreciate his help on where to hit’em. To All - Enjoyed the outing.

Till the next time tight lines .. <'))><

Had a great time putting faces to the names. I just wish I could have had the honor of wetting a line with y'all. Maybe next time.

If you're wondering if you should do it again.... Ya got my vote!! FM sanctioned or whatever. Just keep me posted. Aside from the bugs, those cats sound like a lot of fun.

Thanks again guys for putting it all together.

I should have got there earlier to meet the guys who headed out already, Fishead thanks for the offer to join you guys in the boats, but Dark is always good company, and I got to meet his buddy the "raptor man".

And when you go fishin with BayouBill you don't even need to wear bug spray, just have him sit 20 ft away, and he will draw them away from you, better than one of those electric bug zappers. smile.gif

FisherDave and Joe were smart enough to wait till the sun was setting before joining us, but it was still hot even then. Dave I would like to buy some of your 3-4oz wieghts when you start pouring them.

The good company made up for the the slow fishing, and I'll be coming next time you all get together! Thanks!

Rick Just want you to know that I enjoy the board and wish you could have been at the gathering. Would have like to meet you. Fishhead gave me a FM sticker and will show it proudly on my boat. Maybe some time I can order a tee shirt. Will do as soon as I can.

It hurts, it really does when I can't get to an outing. Especially this one on the Minnesota.

I've just moved my office and setting up, plus all the demands of keeping everyone happy eliminates my attendance at too many of these great times.

By this Ice fishing season, I intend to be set to go to more events.

Really appreciate you guys getting your FishingMinnesota gear.

You can see it all at:
http://fishingmn.com/sportgood.html

Believe me, you met a number of truly great FM.com ambassadors in Fishhead, Dark30, and Sarge.

I'm looking forward to meeting many of you at future fishing trips.

I've seen better days of catfishin', but it sure was a niceun' fer gettin' a tan!
Well I'll tell ya' pilgrim, I wasn't about to set and watch that little filly end up in that log jam. Glad I could be of assistance, though.
I wanna thank Fishhead and Dark for a great time. We did everything right - the fish just didn't agree!!! Maybe in couple weeks. Anyways, thanks for the bumperstickers especially - they're real purty!
How many of you folks think the cats are right smack dab in the middle of the spawn?
I mighta caught a cat later on if'n I hadn't a been snoring at the stars, and lettin' the skeets munch on my tonsils. Fishhead, didn't I hear you say somethin about me gettin' a couple runs while I was trudging knee deep in the mud with all my cookin' stuff? Oh well, it's probably a good thing my wife doesn't let me out much - I think the world is a safer place with me on shore.

Yup Sam You had a couple of runs.I am not sure if you remember much smile.gif but you told me to hook him so I did and fought him for a few seconds until he came off.At that time I had a run and you grabbed my rig to set the hook but he spit it.

Thanks to everyone (fishhead and canopy sam) who so graciously towed my sorry fat butt around Saturday night. I finally did get the motor up and running again last night.

Anyway, Paul and I had some runs and he caught a nice 12 or so pound channel. I caught a 2 or 3 pound gar and some darn moths or bees or whatever them friggin things were.

Took a little while to get that silty mud of the trailer and my shoes but all in all that was a pretty good time. I lost two out of three games of cribbage to Paul, but I blame it on the heat......I think I missed a few points in there somewhere.

Looking forward to the next one.

Looks like da boyz did a great job getting things set up. Sure looked fun wish I could have made it!

Dark30 with that paint ball cannon has me worried a bit though? I could just see him stalking anglers at night when the fishing was slow. LOL!!

smile.gif

Lets hope we can get things to go for August 31 on the Red in Fargo/Moorhead. I may not have a bunch of time to get things too organized that week, buzy as heck in late August, but I think we can manage to find some sumo cats, yup-yup-u-betch-ya.

Ya, that little toy was pretty cool! I would have loved to have one of those when I was a kid! The kid who had it gladly let me try it in return for a brat and some chips.

I hope things can work out for the gathering up there Ed! I'm sure I can plan a trip to the inlaws in Fergus...drop them off and keep driving!
