I'm guessing he was hunting with someone.

Walsh, shoot me an email, be nice to know how your hunting seasons going.

Wasn't really an opener report but I headed out today for one of the only pheasant hunts I'll get this year since I was home for the weekend. Hunted a couple of WMA's in Rice county all afternoon. Dog got two nice roosters up within about 10 minutes of each other, both of which should have been in in the bag, however due to poor shooting I walked away empty handed, sorry Bear.

Just got back from my (and my pups) first pheasant hunt. 10 guys - 6 dogs - 3 full days and a short morning hunt on the 4th day - 98 birds.

Hunting private land in SW North Dakota.

I have never seen birds like that....kicking up 200-300 in just one field. Multiple other fields would kick up 40-100....CRAZY! shocked.gif On top of that driving from field to field and just seeing a ton of birds in other peoples fields just walking around, or flushing from driving by or just gettiing the guns loaded after parking.

What an experience of a lifetime for both me and my dog! grin.gif

My Brother-in-Law, my son, a friend & I went to Central No. Dak. last week-end. Lots of birds, but we had to work hard to get our limit. We hunted with a friend of mine that I grew up with who lives in that area. Two days, thirty roosters, eight sharptails, six huns and three very tired, happy dogs! grin.gif

I have a report to share. I went down to my friend's farm near Windom on Saturday 11/4. Three of us hunted the creek and grown over pasture with his Lab and shot 5 within an hour. We must have seen over 50 birds. After we ate lunch, we went to check out some public land and shot another rooster right away for our 6 birds.

Beautiful day. Roosters cackling all day long. Not many pheasant hunters and only a few deer hunters seen. We were sitting in the truck by some public land and had a big buck run right down the road about 30' from us - close enough to see his tongue hanging out. He was really huffing it. We watched him run clear accross a section before heading into a draw.

I am heading up north deer hunting the next two weekends so hopefully this weather will turn colder. Small sloughs and creeks were iced over but will be melting off with this warming weather. I have to say it was nice hunting pheasants in tennis shoes, a tee shirt and orange vest in November!
