long underwear

I decided it is finally time to invest in a good pair of long underwear that will keep me warm while sitting in my deer stand during the upcoming rifle and muzzleloader season. I went to cabelas and checked out a pair of Polar Expedition-Weight Polartec® Power Dry. They look comfortable and warm but are they really worth th $40 for the top and $40 for the bottoms? If anyone has any experience or anything to add I would greatly appreciate it.

I purchased the polar tec level 3 tops and bottoms (about $40 each for top and bottom) and I love them!! Light weight, not bulky, and for that price, I think you are getting a really good item.

I have been able to cut down on a couple of layers since purchasing the polar tec. I have also thought about getting their level 4 to use as the outermost layer before the camo (or orange) for those really cold days. The stuff is so light and packable that you can carry it in without the bulk, put it on before you get into stand, and you are ready to go for the day.

You definitely will not be sorry if you purchase it..

Cabelas claims these were adopted for use by the U.S. military. I cant see how the under armor would even compare to these. Under Armor is very thin while these are thick yet light and will trap a lot of air creating a nice cushion.

The under-armor is like a base layer. It will not be anywhere near as warm. In combination, which is what I have done, it is a wonderful combination. The under armor wicks any moisture away from your body, and the level 3 polar tec makes things nice and toasty....

Underarmor is similar to the level 1 layer. It is meant as a light insulating wicking layer.

These thermal underwear from Cabelas are very good. I like them a lot. I bought a set of similar quality last year from Gander and they worked great. I bougt a second set and used them for ice fishing once the bow season ended. I hunted until Dec. 29th and that included a morning at -5*F. With the right insulation and the right outerwear you will be fine. If you will spend a couple hundred on a gun I'd hope you could spend $80 on the clothing to keep you out there long enough to see your quarry...especially in Muzzleloader season.

I say get them. They are great.

I have two sets of these and I think they are great. They are great for ice fishing and stand hunting. If you walk alot, either don't wear much over them, or wear something else. I also find that they do wick moisture away from the body and I wear them right next to my skin. I consider good long undies as important as any piece of hunting equipment I own.

I went muzzleloading up by lake of the woods last December and bought some Under Armor Cold Gear just for the occasion. One day we started it was about -15 and I don't think it got above 0 for the day. My body never got cold sitting out there, my toes did a little though. If it wasn't for my toes getting cold I could have sat out there for 4-5 hours pretty easy without going in to warm up.

Sounds like they might be the ticket for cold weather sitting, but I also like the to have several sets of polypro underwear for active outdoors activities like pheasant hunting. I goto walmart, buy their $15 polypro tops, cut off and hem the sleeves, then I wear them under a long sleeve cotton shirt. When I'm out in SoDak when you start out and its 75 but by the time you're done its 55, you've worked up a sweat, but that polypro wicks away the moisture, and since I'm changing every day, I want 5-6 tops.

Why buy all that when you can buy 1 set of (ibex)I 1st used this on a sheep hunt Aug when the tempts were 70 100lb pak walking 3-12 miles aday at night it got down to 30 i never took the set off for 6 days.Buy the socks to go with it.My boots never came off either 24/7 they were on

I use the same set for deer hunting scouting walking what ever it's the best on the market. It stays dry but the next layer takes all the water on.Keeps that cold sweat off your back thats what it's made to do.I also use it when late season deer hunting.I'll sit all day long 1 hr before day light until 1/2 hour after sunset. You pay for what you get and like said above.Worth every penny to stay warm and dry

I have the polar weight MTP Bowhunt series with X-Static and I love them . Does anybody have both and have a preferance? When I spoke with the product specialist at Cabelas he pointed me towards the MTP over Polartech.

Thats a good question Tippman. I looked at both and even though the MTP was 5 bucks cheaper it seemed a lot more bulky than the Polartech. I decided to go with the polartech. I will test it out come november 4th and let you know how it worked. Im hoping we dont have another warm opener because I want a nice layer of snow on the ground.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
