MLB Come Back Players of The Year Are In!

Recommended Posts

Really Strato?

Have you really looked at the stats? Here's how they compare

Games - Thome +6

AB - Thome +24

Runs - Thome +31

Hits - Thome +15

Doubles - Thome +15

Homers - Thome +3

RBI - Frank +5

Walks - Thome +26

OBP - Thome +.035

Slugging - Thome + .054

Average - Thome + .018

I like the Big Hurt as much as the next person, maybe more, but Thome is the clear favorite this year as comeback and he has been a player favorite year in year out while Frank has been known to be somewhat of a cry baby and head case.

Did I change your mind? Just ax-in.

No not really. I would have expected those numbers from Thome, those numbers from Thomas were a surprise. Plus we should calculate the cost per home run for their respective teams. Oh wait, here it is, cost per Thome HR is roughly $375,000.00, cost per Thomas HR is roughly, $14,000.

Hmmm. Besides Thome was expected to have a good season last year and didn't, why do you think he was paid so much??? Thomas wasn't expected to do much of anything, hence the low salary. And who's team is still in the hunt? THome certianly didn't help in that department, but Frank sure helped Oakland who hasn't been to the post season since '02 I beleive. The sux won it all last year without Thome...

And they are very close in all the stats that matter.

But I guess I stand corrected.

Very tough for me to judge because I don't know the definition - how did they do yr over yr? Comeback - for a couple of DH's? Not in my book.

I like both your arguments. They are definitely powers to be reckoned with and have numbers to prove it.

Ahem....Nomar is an ex-Cub you guys know. Another brainy decision? No, it's jus' bidniz!

Axe-in?? confused.gif

Doesn't matter, it should be based on what was delivered against what was expected. Thome was expected to have those numbers, like his last year in Philly. Like I said above, hence the salary, Everyone thought Franks career was over, hence his salary.

Both great years, Thome always has been one of my favorite players. I just would have voted differently.

I agree Frank Thomas should have won it...Thome what did he come back from-The National League??????? I have always liked both of these players but Thomas could have done nothing this year and critics would have said go figure....If Thome didn't do anything this year critics would have been all over him for not producing like he should......

Well that maybe true but that isn't what the comeback player award is about. It is about giving an award to the person who made the biggest comeback from a poor year or an injury filled year.

Both Thomas as Thome poor years in 2005 with alot of injury problems for both.

Here is a comparison on the difference from 05 to 06 for both of them

..........AB.....HR....RBI...AVG.....SLG

Thome +297 +35 +79 +.81 +.246

Thomas +361 +27 +88 +.51 -.45

These are the numbers you should be using to determine your comeback player of the year. It is more a comparision between this year and last year. It is close but I give it to Thome becuase Thomas is a dink.
