Pheasant Opener

How is the harvesting looking for the opener? Anyone seeing any corn coming down yet?

I have been seeing tons of birds all around the last couple weeks while duck and dove hunting. For crops the beans are pretty much done. A lot of corn fields are being started in between New Ulm and St. Peter. I've seen a few fields that are out.

I would say corn would be no more than 10% done. Beans more like 80-90% done. It will be a later year for the corn as the elevators are very limited in storage and some apparently aren't even wanting corn yet... Best hunting will be November and later.

Yup. Plus with the market prices being what they are, a lot of farmers will try and keep the corn in the field to dry.

Leave the corn up as far as im concerned, With the high numbers of birds being reported and with that more hunters out there alot of birds could go down the first few weekends.

Call me selfish but I'd be happy if the corn is in till the end of October, but around here and I justed asked my buddy sitting next to me in class and they are done with beans and starting corn tomorrow as is almost everyone around him he said. That is NE of New Ulm.

I don't get much hunting done till football is over in November, hopefully the end of November, so the more birds around when the snow flies and the sloughs freeze up the better.

beans will be all picked, and the only corn being cut is silage. there will plenty of corn for the opener.
