Andrew Erickson
anybody like this band? i listened to these guys and they are awesome!
Reynolds
I have to quite honest with you, I liked this band until they came out with their latest cd and the single "bat country." The music on this cd has become very watered down compared to their first two albums. They have been quoted as saying that they are trying to appeal to larger masses, and that they know they have changed their style of music and don't care what their old fans think. I would check out "sounding the seventh trumpet" or "waking the fallen"??? albums. Keep in mind that this is coming from a guy who loves heavier music, so I appreciated when they were a harder band. Just my opinion.
Ray Esboldt
I had heard some about them prior to their latest release, but was rather disappointed once I heard them. They are not as bad as much of the bubblegum music around, and their guitar player can be impressive. But, they just aren't edgy enough for me. I like my music angry (as a friend of mine is fond of saying) yet melodic. Man, if you guys saw some of the CDs in my collection you would think I was semi-disturbed. Quickstrike
I agree with reynolds, waking the fallen and sounding the 7th were good albums, but it just seems like they are trying to hard to sound like a modern version on G@R these days. They are a very talented band but i think their own egos are getting in the way.
hanson
Ray- You're not a Slipknot fan are you? I love those guys!
Ray Esboldt
I do have one Slipknot CD, whatever the last one was. I like much of their stuff. The band I really dig now is Opeth. They're a little off the mainstream path, but do a tremendous job of combining metal, jazz, and folk. I don't really know that there are many other artists around like them. The rest of the stuff I listen to ranges from old school metal (Priest, Maiden) to Johnny Cash and Don Williams to just plain old black metal to whatever sounds good that day. But, I am a metalhead if anything.
Ely Lake Expert
I really don't like avenged sevenfold, but I did like the 2 bands that had members join together to make avenged sevenfold.Ray, If you have the new slipknot and like it, I would really recomend getting their original selftitled album from 1999. It is one of my favorite cd's ever. I also enjoy opeth. If you want to hear an excellent band who is even harder, check out Lamb of God. Also, a Swedish band named Meshuga is an excellent band. This coming from one metal head to another.Ryan
Reynolds
The new Lamb of God album is pretty good. I would also check out The Black Dahia Murder, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Between the Buried and Me, Arsis, Fragments of Unbecoming, and As I Lay Dying to name a few more. Reynolds
I highly reccomend Arsis: A Celebration of Guilt. This is not an album that you are going to find in any music store. You will need to order it which should take only a couple of days to receive. The sound these guys produce is so complete that they are almost orchestral. Chech them out
channelfats
Brothers. I thought I was the only metalhead in minnesotaholding a fishing pole. You guys seem to be leaving outdillinger escape plan- calculating infinity. One of the bestalbums ever(in my opinion), next to betweentheburiedandme'ssilent circus. Reynolds
There was a band from White Bear Lake that was around for a couple of years that is in my opinion the best metal I have ever heard. Their name was originally Section Hate, and later on they changed their name to Remnants of the Executed. Unfortunately about this time last year they called it quits so getting a hold of one of their cds would be very hard to do. Their drummer however now plays in a band that goes by the name of With Deads Hands Rising, which also is a very talented band. I know that you can listen to a couple of their songs on MySpace. For those of you who don't know, the Twin Cities has a really good metal scene. I know that a lot of good metal bands happen to play at the Skatebomb Skatepark in Rogers. When I return to Minnesota I plan on stopping by Cabela's and then heading over to see a show at the Skatepark. If you guys are into Dillinger Escape Plan, I would check out a band by the name of Bring Me The Horizon. With Dead Hands Rising is also a bit Dillinger-esque. A few other bands I think worth checking out are Blackheart Eulogy, Dead Elizabeth, As Blood Runs Black, Demiricous, and Winds of Plague.
TurnUpTheFishing
I think you mean 'Showcase' skatepark. New skatepark/venue that opened this summer. I bike there pretty often. Its across the highway from Cabelas? Unless there is another park Im not aware of..

Ray Esboldt
Reynolds, I think LofG is OK. Very heavy, but a bit repetitive. That's kind of what I think about many of those bands (Shadows Fall, Unearth, Killswitch Engage). One song is good, the rest sound too similar. However, I do like Meshuggah and Dark Tranquility. I suppose you could throw them in that metalcore genre. I would say the bands I give the most rotation to right now in the CD collection are Opeth, Porcupine Tree (not metal, but very cool), Mastodon, and High On Fire. I'm probably too old to be a metalhead. I still listen to lots of old school stuff - Maiden, Priest, AC/DC. And, I like bands like Black Label Society and Iced Earth that deliver the old school experience. So, maybe I'm getting too old to rock-n-roll, but I'm trying like heck to fight it off. I still crank up old school Megadeth, Metalica, Pantera, Manson and others when fishing. I swear the fish like it.
