Placement Of Rattle Reels

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to mount my rattle reels in my new fish house. Should I put them Knee high, waist high, or by the ceiling? They are Lindell Ice Rigs so they are removable when not in use. I have heard some folks say to mount them up high to keep them out of the way. What do you think?

Ihad mine waist high but changed them after jiggin for eyes kept hitting them with the rod tip when I would set the hook. I found at a garage sale a couple of buzzer set ups that I,m going to try. I,ll try to get some pics on later.

I'm not sure what brand mine are. I think their called Mille Lacs rattles, but they are the wood spindle ones with the bells in it. I got them at the BP gas station up at mille lacs next to trophys bar and grill. I like the wood ones because they seem to make more noise than the plastic ones. they do come apart with a plastic wing nut.

Great topic, here goes. Thus far, nobody got this yet:

Ok, if you get the real deal Lewandoski rattle reels, like they sell on fish house supply or at Unclaimed Freight in Milaca, you can purchase or order EXTRA mounting brackets for them for a couple bucks, then you can have them mounted "high" during the day, and if you are sitting down, move em to a lower position. The little bracket is almost unnoticable on the wall-- most better bait shops sell the little bracket, the Lewandoski Rattle Reels just drop into them.

Hope I did not drop too many names there... my bad!

I mounted mine on some swing arms on a hinge to move them when not in use. They are about thigh high. I have two others that are removable that use a socket and pin type setup that I take out for travel. I use small bungies to hold them against the wall when not in use. Here are how most of mine are mounted:

I preferr on the ceiling. That what you can place a marker at the rattle reel and see it easily when laying down and it is just easier to feed line set hook ect if you don't have to bend down to get at it.

elwood i have a way to improve your buzzers.

cut a small notch in the rim of the reel with a hack saw...only a couple of mm deep. this will allow you to use a bobber rod instead of hand lining. you put the line of the bobber rod in the notch and and spin the reel until it is almost to the buzzing point but not quite. fish takes your bobber, spins the reel, sets off the buzzer and then you can fight it with the rod

if you like doing it by had cool, but if you like the rod better, thats the best way to go

None are as good as the Original Lindells. I mount them high so they are not in the way. I just pull up on the line to jig them. You can also get extra wall bracket for them too. You can mount them to a bucket and use them for tip ups too.. Or that is handy when fishing outside.

Place them high enough so they aren't in the way, and go with the Lindell Ice Rigs, they are by far the best rattle reel on the market. No wingnuts, no unwanted line vibration, and the smoothest spinning spool there is. The Lindell Ice Rigs are quality constructed and you get what you pay for. I also like the rod holders which are pretty ingenius in their own right for using with my spinning rods.
