x-102c going crazy

ssaamm

Question

I bought a Lowrance x-102c about 1 1/2 years ago, and it worked like a champ until the other day. I had the boat motor turned off and all of a sudden it would read depths at random from 30 to 149 ft. Then the screen would go black and read 0.0 ft. The voltage and the temp would read fine. If I was at cruising speed it would run just fine. If I was just putzing sometimes it was great and other times back to 0.0ft-- very frustrating. I checked all the hook-up/ plug-ins. They looked fine. I took a close look at the transducer and noticed two very small holes on the back vertical wall of the transducer. They looked pretty symetrically-placed. Maybe they have been there all the time, and I have just never noticed. Incidentally, the at the same time the sound quick working. I cranked the volume up to the max and still no sound. Any help would be great. Thanks

just ran into the garage and powered up the x-102c. It read at 12.6 volts. From my understanding, this should be fine. Thanks for the quick response. This is driving me crazy.

Mine went goofy last year. I emailed Lowrance and they gave me instructions on a re-boot. It worked for me. I can't remember how to do it but if you email them they have excellent customer service.Good luck.

Hey maybe that will work on my X71 on the bow. It has been really screwy to this year. It will be reading just fine and then all of a sudden the unit will read 0 ft but it is still scrolling along showing the bottom countours of the lake on the graph. Then the depth will flash back on like 200' and finally it will settle back down and read normal again. It is weird but maybe a rest will take care of it.

The transducer on the X 71 might be starting to go bad. I had two transducers go bad on my X 98DF. Lowrance told me that the dual frequency transducers will burn out if you use them in shallow water. I bought a 200 khz transducer and turned my X 98 into a X 97 and it has been fine. I would see the picture of the bottom going by faintly on the screen, but the digital readout would just go wacky. I could turn the unit off and let it find bottom again, but when I put the boat in gear and barely started to move the readings would go waxky again. I talked to a tech at Lowrance about it and he knew less than I did.
