DEI Power Takes Michigan Busch Race

LMITOUT

Recommended Posts

Actually they were 1 & 3 and only because Earnhardt drove like his old man and wrecked Edwards because he apparently couldn't pass him. Jr's in car camera made it seem pretty clear that he didn't lift at all by the sound. Too bad for a guy who's running for points to be taken out be a guy just running his third race of the year. Edwards who was leading, finished 23rd and lost a spot in the standings falling to 3rd. A real classy act by #8...NOT. Bristol is coming...

Whatever. Edwards would have (and has before) done the same. Edwards gets mad because his car was loose and couldn't take the pressure of two cars trying to pass and he got punted. It was the end of the race with three cars going for the win and none of them are going to lift. It was apparent that neither did Edwards since he was loose off the corner. Stuff happens. Too bad. Like Carl even has a chance in the Busch championship anyway.....Harvick would have to quit now for Edwards to catch up so I'm not buying that. I hope Edwards, or is his name Cole?, gets penalized too for his Days of Thunder move at the end of the race.

Apparently they moved Gordon down a spot after I posted this originally, because he WAS 2nd at that time.....

Nice to see Jr. being aggressive. This isn't tea and crumpets or MLB. This was only Jr's third race of the year? Wow, not too bad going 2 for 3. grin.gif

I hope the same thing happens tomorrow only with Jr. spinning, that would be fair, right LMITOUT? Like Lawdog said, Carl is running for points and wheather he is going to win the championship or not is irrelevant, jr. changed the face of things. You live by the bumper, you die by the bumper, and judging by the number of cars that like to run with Jr. (Stewart and Truex) I'd say he dosen't have that many friends left.

All I can say for what I saw was that Carl was loose and Jr got a run on him.The three were going for the win and any one could have won it and Jr did.Yes Jr did hit him ,but did Carl drive in so hard that his car was loose coming off and lost his momentum???????

Only Carl knows

Just because he is not running for the points doesnt mean he cant race for a win.If that is the case then there is probably 8-10 that should not try every week.

The Jr haters will have fun with this one for sure!!!

Yes, the part timers have every right to race for the win, they just should be smarter about it when racing around other cars high in the points. And yes, I don't know if Carl (or anyone else for that matter) would have done anything differently had the roles been reversed since it was 2 to go. It's just a shame since he had the fastest car and took such a big hit in the points.

So then what you might be saying is tommorrow if someone not in the top ten is running for the win and has a run they should maybe back out if it just in case it could get close or the other guys cars handling goes away so the guy in the higher points position can get his points for the day. I am confused.

Many races the guy with the fastest car does not win as his car goes away at the end.

Like I said, the points Edwards lost today were minor considering how far he's behind. If he ends up losing the championship by those points he lost today than I'll admit that it was a tough break for Edwards, but even with that said there were cars going for the win in the race today and, as they say, that's racin'.

No Lee, I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is that it was a racing deal but it could have been avoided. It was two laps to go and if Jr. would have let the 60 get control he still would have had 1.5 laps or so to get around him cleanly. I'll repeat, it was a racing deal but it could have been avoided. Now I have to ask you Lee and Lmit. Had that been Kurt Busch spinning out Jr. for the win would you guys still be so calm about it or would the controversy be different?

I stand by what I said....that's racin. Jr has been spun out before and it won't be the last.

Let me ask you this: Had it been Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson who had spun out Edwards would have you made the same arguments about championship contenders and letting off the go-pedal because there were 1.5 laps left to get by him cleanly?

Yes I would. I believe in racing cleanly and if you can't get around by doing it cleanly then you don't really have a faster car, do you?

Well, I don't think a car trailing another car has to just give up to let the guy in front straighten out an over-driven racecar either when the checkered flag is about to come out. I mean, if the guy in front can't control his car and is all over the place, the guy behind isn't going to just give him the win because he's ahead with a few laps left. Who had the faster car? Tough to tell. Jr had just passed Edwards and later Edwards got to the front only because Jr and Robby were racing for the lead.

I'll go on to say that I don't think that Jr. intended to spin out the 60 but then again I'll say that Jr. didn't do anything to not spin out the 60 either.

I'd agree with that, and the latter part of your statement goes back to what I said earlier about racing for the win.

I will say this, why should you have to slow for a guy with his car maybe not under control? No one should have to wait for another to collect his car and it also should not matter where you are in the points.I will blame a racer for just running into another car but not when the other driver does not have control of his own car.

Also if we want to talk about dumd moves then we should not forget about Carl coming back onto the track and body slamming Jr.Talk about a sore loser.

When we go racing one thing that really bugs me are the racers that cannot control thier car.I really feel they should stop whining if there car is not handling up to snuff.I get tired of people that over drive thier car or cannot set it up and get upset when they get hit.

Also, you can be alot faster than the guy in front of you and not get buy him.If they block you or are all over the track how then do you get by this faster person??

I know I was thinking of Days of Thunder there when he did that. It didn't seem like too big of a deal till the showed Jr in car and he had his hand out the window directing air. If Carl had hit him just wrong it would have been bad.

I agree with Harvey Lee! When did racing change? Isn’t racing when everybody goes as fast as they can, trying to get to the finish line first? I've never heard it referred to as "a gentlemans sport". If a guy cannot keep his car under control just because someone is near him, then he may still have the fastest car, just not the best handling car, or he is overdriving it in that situation, and would be passed anyway. I’m not saying it should be a free for all and anything goes, (then it should be called a derby) but if something happens in close racing that wasn’t intentional, then so be it. I missed the race, but from the sound of it from more than a few people, nothing intentional was done.

No Harm…. No foul!

Ask Edwards if there was no harm. He took a ride and even started to get airborne at 170 mph. I have no problem with Jr. getting into him when Edwards got loose, that's going to happen. But a better move would have been to lift or probably more accurately just tap the brakes to let him correct losing a few spots and passing him easily without dumping him in front of the whole field which was bunched up on the restart and instead of costing a guy running for points 20+ spots. You've already moved him when you get him sideways, why continue to lean on him and turn him around, that's what I have a problem with. Rubbing and bumping is one thing, especially in the final laps, but when you get to him and hit him, then pass him, don't just stay leaning on him for forever and make sure you dump him. It was stupid, and very nearly wrecked the car he owns by doing it.

But I suppose today or next Sunday when Edwards does it back and knocks the Chosen One out of the chase it will still be "just racing" right DEI sheep????????

If he would have just tapped Edwards instead of driving through him, all three would have ended up in a pile. The best thing that could have happened was sending him into the infield. grin.gif

Once again, Edwards isn't even in touch with the championship leader so it's a moot point.

Monday morning quarterbacking is always easy. Anything can happen in those situations, you know it as a racer and so does anyone who watches. He could have lifted sure...that doesnt mean that Edwards wouldn't have still lost it and JR get caught up in it too. Or if he had lifted, may have caused the "whole field which was bunched up on the restart" behind him to have even a bigger wreck involving more people. Things happen real fast at 170mph. I don't care who you are, nobody KNOWS what is going to happen, only what might or possibly happen. Very few if any champion racers got to be champions by not taking chances that someone else wouldn't take. Racers take chances everytime they fire up their cars, always knowing what might happen...never knowing what will happen.

I will say this, you can be the gentleman and tap the brake or get out of the gas and maybe not have the caution.I get all over my son when he races so clean. He never hits anyone and always tries to be the nice guy.The next lap or the next race that same guy that you were nice too will park you in the rhubarb to beat you by one position.I truly believe you need to race people the way you want to be raced but every single race I am changing my thoughts on this. You know that when you get to the track that this could be the night you dont want to happen but as a racer that is what goes.We had on night where a guy couldnt control his car and totally wrecked our car.Out 15,000.You can either cry about it or go and buy a new one and start to race again.

You can do all the right things and be Mr nice while they all pass you for the checkered flag. You need to drive that car as hard as you can and whatever happens, happens.NO ONE will give you a brake so please explain why one needs to be Mr nice????

We have always raced people the way we wanted them to race us,problem with that is they dont and its all hogwash.

I personally dont understand why he choses to race that way as it does not work and nice guys dont win alot races. If you have to lay the bumper to them, then give them the chrome horn and be done with it.For three straight weeks we have had clowns take us out of a win with 2 to go or have just taken us out.

I really feel if you dont have control of your race car then let the chips fall where they may, period.

If a racer takes you out two weeks in a row and the following week he is in front of you and he is loose,to bad for him and lay it to him.

WHAT HE SAID!!

Racing is a contact sport. If you don't like it or can't handle it, take up golf.....

As long as NASCAR is consistant in their actions when handling occurances such as these, I have no problem with "going for the win".
