Garza being offered?

You are talking about replacing bit players then. When Ford gets back and now that Hunter is back you will have more then enough out fielders that are capable players. And I don't see a point to making a trade so that you can give Morneau a day off here and there. He plays first base, its not as physically demanding as other positions he should be able to play everyday without a problem. It looks like you wanted another starter type player on the roster but you want him as a bench player. Casey did not go to the Tigers to be a back up, he is a 3 time allstar and a career .300 hitter, he is their new starter. Its just not worth what you would need to give up to get him. What is a player worth if all they do is spell Morneau every 10-15 days? We have the players capable of backing up the infield when needed.

either way another first baseman isn't what we needed. A good right handed bat to play LF is the only area I think we could have used improvment. But Soriano is not the answer in my opinion unless we could have gotten him cheap. I still think this team is not being built for this year, it is just a bonus if we can find a way to win this year.

EZ there fella. I do agree that some of the bench players can be replaced. Maybe even traded to get something better then what is there. The Twins have always worked the farm team player and it was no surprise to anyone that they didn't pick anyone up. Getting rid of the pain in the butt Lohse was a great move not only for the Twins but also for him. He needs a new start and he will do well. I like to see that he went to the NL because it usually bite's the Twins in the butt when they trade someone and he comes back to spank us. Just remember trading isn't over yet.

The next deadline that you are referring to is a tough one and generally good players don't get traded as they have to pass through waivers, which means every major league team could make a play on a player your team is trying to pick up, therefore cockblocking the trade. If a high profile player is traded at this deadline and clears waivers it is only because they have a huge unbearable salary... the Twins won't be picking up any huge unbearable salaries, therefore this is most likely the team that you will see on the field for the remainder of the season. that's true--- but in 87' , the Twins picked up Don Baylor after the 31st of july- and he played great in the ALCS--- he hit a 3 run HR off the foul poul ,, I know I was there. Good teams make moves before the deadline-- great teams makes moves after. Scouting is what counts.

P.S the same scout that got the Twins Santanna,, has got them on the kid they got for Lohse.

Correction--

Baylor hit his HR in the fifth inning off the left field foul poul in Game 6 of the WS agst the Cards. IT was a 2 run HR.. I knew Baylor hit a big HR for the Twins,,, I just forgot what game it was in.

From all I have heard from the Twins Garza is just not ready yet. He has all the pitches but he doesn't use them all at the right times yet.

He has been throwing nothing but fastballs and you can't get away with that at the next level. It sounds like they want him to get a few more starts in AAA working on mixing up his pitches then they might bring him up later this season.

If this guy is going to be as good as everyone seems to think it is worth taking the time to ensure you do things the right way. I would wait awhile to ensure he is 100% ready before bringing him up. Nothing is worse for a young guy like that then getting all your confidence blow up by being thrown into the rotation too soon.

My sources ( like I have any ) say that right now Garza is a fastball pitcher and we all know if all you have is a fastball everyone in MLB can hit a fastball when they know it's coming. He needs to work on his other pitches before a visit to the show, they don't want him to come up and get hammered his 2nd time through the batting order.

I listened to TR yesterday on KFAN talk about Garza. He said that he has four MLB ready pitches, but right now doesn't use all of them enough. Basically it sounds like his fastball is good enough to blow through AAA, so that is all he uses. Taking the easy way out right now.

He just needs to work on mixing those pitches in and he will be up here. But don't make it sound like he doesn't have those pitches, he does, just isn't using them because his fastball is so good and the guys in the minors can't touch it.

I would expect him to be up whenever the need for a 5th starter comes around again. Boof is just up right now to make a spot start for Liriano. I spose if he does well, then they'll keep him up. If not, I expect to see Garza up here, but who knows?

I did read your post but I have heard that info in a few different spots. I belive that they talked about it in the post game show after a game in the last week or so.

The good thing is that all the physical things are there for Garza he just needs to make the decision to use more pitches. Thats something that a good catcher can help with while he's on the mound as well. But he should be able to do it himself before he comes up.

So that confuses me a little, Mauer gives him the signs, I wouldnt think they would let him shake off Mauer. Bring him up and let Mauer teach him what to throw and when. By the way, see my post on Gary Matthews ....

I think Garza having the ability to know when to mix in other pitches speaks to his maturity as a pitcher. If he can't do it on his own then he probably has some maturing to do.

However, they sent Baker down today and Boof got kicked around so we might see Garza sooner then later despite what they see from him. They are running out of options.

Well, it seems as if they really don't want Garza up here yet. Bonser has been optioned to AAA, and the Twins have purchased Mike Smith's contract, he will be brought up from AAA Rochester.

I don't think the Twins would have started him agst any other team on the road, except the Royals. He probably will still get knocked around as KC hit Santanna pretty good, at least for one inning.
