Fever, The fish was 21". Sorry, I should have put that with the pic. Dietz is in Lindstrom and I am originally from North Branch (10-15 miles away) and I grew up fishing the local lakes in his area. Man I miss having a dozen bass lakes within 15 minutes in a any direction. You've got it good Dietz! Now I've got about 3 within a half hour and a few rivers for smallies. If I didn't fish trout, salmon, and walleyes I could probably hit the 1,000 bass mark...but I am not prepared for that kind of commitment.

Keep those counts going guys! Good luck to all!

Fished Washington last night for league. 9 boats, two guys per boat. 1st place 2bass 1 lg, 1 small mouth, 5 lb 7 oz, 2nd place (me) 2 lg mouth, 4 lb 9 oz, 3rd place 2 lg mouth 3 lb 4 oz. With the second place finish I got to stay in 4th place over all... Better than 5th I spose. Anyway, tough fishing on Washington. Very stained water very weedy. Tried buzzbaits, creature baits, t rigged worms, Minus 1's, spinnerbaits, frogs, tubes, and rattle traps. Partner had the luck last night catching both of the fish we decided to weigh in. I caught a few more fish but size was lacking. Over all spinner bait and buzzbait bite was probably the highest producing pattern however I did get a couple on the creature bait under docks. The larger of the two bass weighed about 3 lbs and that one was fooled by a power tube tight under a dock. Good luck all... & have a good wkend.

went out today a caught 30 bass in 4 hours. that puts me at 95 in 7 trips. started out useing a black exude tube and put 5 in the boat the first 2 hours and then the next hour i caught nothing. i had never fished the lake so i didnt think i was doing to bad and then I found an island that had the wind blowing on it with weeds 3 feet to 7 feet so i put on a spinnerbait and threw it up in that 3 foot of water and i caught 16 bass in a spot about 50 yards buy 50 yards then i went back through and fished 5 to 7 foot water with a grave digger crank bait and added 14 more. and by that time i had to go home to make it to church i wanted to stay but i figure i better go and thank the lord for a good day of fishing wink.gif

This weekend I finally joined the 300 club. It took me a little longer than I had hoped but now I have my sights set on 400. I hope to get there before the end of August. This last week the fishing has been incredible. The rain has dropped the water temps and I think that has helped the fishing.

Number 300 came in with a bang, it was a 19.75 inch toad. So far that is my biggest largemouth of the season.

As of yesterday my total for 2006 is 309.

Dan, congrats on reaching the 300 mark. I have been stuck in the 300's for far far to long. I am hoping to get out Tuesday or Thursday evening to make a run at the elusive 400 club. It is well with in sight however I have not been on the water recently which is a problem.

I still believe I will make a late fall run on smallies on the river or at Vermillion that should put me in the 500-750 range for the year. I believe I will easily hit the 1,000 fish mark but not Bass.

I have total numbers for my boat, but not just myself as I've always kept track of what my partner and I would catch. So far to date, the boat has had 385 largies and 172 smallies get caught and released. Numbers will be slowing down though, as work will be starting back up, which means not as many weekday outings frown.gif

Though I would see where everyone is at for the year. I have not been out as much as I would have liked but am planning the rest of year to get out once during the week and then morning on the weekend. Late fall will be eyes on Mille acs

Anyway I am at 389 and will be on the river all day Sunday chasing smallies so I should be part of the 400 club.

i talked to a guy in the middle of july who fishes in iowa and he has couple of farm ponds that he has exlusive access to and he was at 700 already. WOW that is great he said he would have to stop fishing for him not to hit the century mark. just thought i would share. ike

Well, I did get on the river as planned on Sunday but to my horror the bite was a bit slower then forecasted. We hit it hard but I only managed 14 small mouth in 8 hours on the water. That works out to less then 2 fish per hour. Ouch !!!! The other disturbing trend was the fish were mostly in the 15-16" class vs. the 18-19" fish. This however does put me into the 400 club. I am now at 403 for the year.

To my horror my number one bait Mr. Senko was not producing as they usually do so I had to dig in my bag of tricks. The tubes worked but when I used the weedless tubes the catch rate went down. With the not weedless my snag percentage was through the roof. The other bait that was working was a number 5 jointed shad with the red under belly.

We had three guys in the boat and we were always throwing something different. I would guess between us we tried upwards of 30 different presentations and many many different areas. I got a few to pop on the topwater which is always a thrill but I was trigger happy and missed both as I set the hook at the splash on not the true hit.

I also was very dis-appointed in a couple of line breaks. I had new line on most of the rigs I was using and on 2 occassions I hooked into nice fish only to have the line break shortly after the hookset. Nothing more frustratining that sticking into a pig fish only to pull up lame. Another ouch !!!!

One neat thing we saw when bringing in a smaller small mouth was monster smallie follow to the boat. I would have guessed the fish to be 22 plus and pushing 6-7lb mark.

We also got into a few crappie and pike. I got one pike on a small crappie jig that was about 3 inches in size. That was my smallest ever. We also were able to find schools of nice size rock bass to keep us entertained as needed.

The day was gorgeous and time with my friends was outstanding and I also again learned why they call it fishing and not catching.

I plan not getting out local on Wednesday to make my run at the 500 mark....

been trying to hard to chase down the muskies this year to have any reputable bass totals but you mentioned you have a cabin on Vermillion. I sure do enjoy that like. Last year I caught a 6lb5oz. smallie on opening day of bass season casting the shoreline with a spinnerbait. It hit by a tree fallen on the shore. Kept it in my live well until my boat was out of the water on the trailer then decided to let it go. Nicest I've ever caught large or small mouth.

Deitz, nice to see your still hittin her hard. It's Troy up in Grand Rapids (Hillbillytothebone) Just got back on line so I've been having fun checkin out the forums again. Used to live in Lindstrom back in 95-97. Nice area but I still think it's awful hard to beat over 1000 lakes up here in Itasca County!! It can be overwhelming trying to decide which outstanding lake I'll be forced to fish within ten minutes of my doorstep today. I'll probably have to take a 5 minute ride to the lake I caught 26 largies on, four of which over 5lbs, two days ago by noon. My wrists are still a bit sore but I think I can manage. Work situation is getting a bit desperate up here. Way I see it within a few weeks I'm either going to have to kill myself or look for some work down in 612 land again. Haven't decided which will be worse!! If you think that's bad my poor buddy Carey has been down in Mississippi all summer rebuilding hurricane damaged homes. I call him almost daily to rub it in while he's on the verge of litterally melting in a pool of his own sweat. He guarantees he'll be back for first ice on LOW. I keep tellin him he's goin to puss out n sit in the hotel cuz it will be to cold for him. Time will tell! I would say good luck fishin but with the amount of time you spend on the water your way past the luck phase. It would be more appropriate to say have fun catchin!!! Still get to fish that little lake just outside Lindstrom we talked about a few years back?[email protected]
