Chequamegon Bya advice

Tried posting this under wisconsin...no luck.

I have heard good things about the bay, but have no idea where to get started (targeting smallies). ANyone have any hints? Do you need a large boat for the bay? I would assume so. ANy good maps out there?

Go back to the Cheq/Apostle forum site and look up JKH431 he is one of the moderators. He also runs a winter guide service and is as well aquainted with the area as anyone and very willing to help. There are also two very good sport shops in the area, Anglers All in Ashland and one just outside of Washburn, the name escapes me right now. Good maps(charts) are available for the area at these shops. Good luck, it is a very beautiful area and full of smallies. Old Sneller

I have a Fishin Hotspots map for Chequamegon Bay. It's the typical type of Fishin Hotspots map in that it gives a pretty complete and detailed representation of spots, names, depths, lots of fishing tips, and some background info. Well worth the $8 or so that it costs. I think I found it at Gander.

I work for a company based in Ashland and have fished the bay a few times. We have always had the best luck fishing by the break wall that is out there, very visible. Had the best luck off the east end of it. Have had excellent fishing and very poor fishing out there. Guess thats why we call it fishing and not shopping. Dont think you will get much help from Anglers All as they would rather have you hire them to take you out... not sure of the other place. I just go with my buddies that live there. Good luck
