What Brand of Boat Engine?

Yeah, I had that written down as and option and then didn't add it thinking it would lump in with Mercury. They are actually Chrysler derived. They got mixed in with Mercury a while later and I believe the lower halves were Merc.

I suppose you could vote Chrysler if you have a Force. Wish I could edit the poll and add it. I'm sure there are some more I missed as well but that's what "other" is for. wink.gif

Mercury never had much to do with Force, they just bought it to eliminate potential of competiton. Not many parts were compatible, mainly few electrical harnesses, and smaller items.

Lower unit were still Chrysler.

I think you missed the 3 Inboard/Outboard brands:

Mercruiser

OMC

Volvo.

I considered Mercruiser and OMC, but those are represented already. OMC is just the parent company of Johnson/Evinrude so I figured it wasn't necessary.

Considering the demographics of FishingMN, Volvo wouldn't be a front runner anyway.....

But OMC doesn't exist anymore and Volvo is very popular since it's the ONLY alternative to Mercruiser, and installed in many boats.

I voted Other since I own an OMC, a Mercury, and an Evinrude.

Even when OMC did exist they were Johnson/Evinrude engines. It's the same as saying that Bombardier should be listed.

I think we're getting mixed up here. I'm referring to OMC as the parent company of Johnson/Evinrude...which is now Bombardier. I can't say that I've ever seen an engine with the OMC name....another closet engine that fits in "other".

Like I said earlier, you could have a list a mile long of all the half-breeds and odd-ball engines ever produced, but I tried to hit the most popular with outboards in mind.

I'm somewhat surprised at the number of Yamaha's, but I'm guessing those are mostly the newer 4-strokes that are so popular. I know that if I get a new boat that I'd have checked that one too.

LMITOUT, now I understand the deal, no problem.

OMC was actually a brand name for Inboard motors, they were the largest competiton for Mercruiser until late '90s, then Volvo bought their line and modified some of them.

The Lund you see in my avatar has an OMC 4.3 Cobra Inboard/Outboard

I am glad to hear some positive posts about the Yamaha 4 stroke. Just bought a new boat equipped with a 150. So far it seems like a good choice.

Hugonian,

the only 4 stroke yammy we have is a 15 horse kicker, but I will tell you it works absolutly great. Runs good, very quiet.
