Go figure. Walleye fishing. Those are the type of people that end up catching those caliber fish more often than not.

If you truly want to catch a trophy class musky you will need a few things first;

1)A snoopy rod.

2)A white crappie jig.

3)A dock

4)A 7-10 year old kid.

And no landing net. Then you will see a big musky! grin.gif

Are you suggesting that we use a 7 - 10 year old kid with a snoopy pole rigged with a white crappie jig as bait fished off of a dock? grin.gif

THATS SO TRUE. I KNOW A GUY THATS GOT 3 HUGE CASES FULL OF MUSKIE LURES PROLLY WORTH AROUND $3000.00. AND HES THE KIND OF GUY THAT TALKS TRASH ABOUT BASS/WALLEYE/PANFISH FISHERMAN BECAUSE THOSE FISH ARE NOT AT THE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN AND HOW SUPERIOR HE IS TO OTHER FISHERMAN. HERS THE FUNNY THING...THIS GUY HASNT CAUGHT MORE THAN 5 MUSKIE EACH YEAR WHILE ALL US BASS GUYS AND WALLEYE GUYS CATCH MORE MUSKIE THAN HIM EACH AND EVERY YEAR.

So you're saying you catch 5+ Muskies every year untargeted!? You must fish a lot if that's happening...and a lot more than your buddy.

I DONT CATCH 5+ MUSKIES BUT A FEW OF MY BUDDIES THAT DONT MUSKIE FISH CATCH MORE MUSKIE THAN THE TRASH TALKING GUY. SO SORRY IF I MADE IT SOUND LIKE IM CATCHING TONS OF MUSKIES WHILE NOT TARGETING THEM. I'VE NEVER SEEN A PIKE/MUSKIE BE CAUGHT ON A "MUSKI" LURE. I ALWAYS HEAR OR SEE THEM BEING CAUGHT ON BASS TACKLE.

I found this post back aways but thought I would add something. I think there a many lakes across MN that hold a record fish and I believe a few records probably have already been caught but released. Personally, I think there is a very good chance the musky record wont be broken by a "musky" angler because the majority of us are so conservation minded when it comes to keeping fish. I at least would have a very hard time killing a fish that big for the sake of a record. When I first started getting into musky fishing, I said if I got a 50" I would put it on the wall. Well, two 50's later, they both are still swimming as far as I know. Just my thoughts on this whole record thing.

Well I am sure I will get some flack for this but its the truth and nothing but the truth. I was on Cass two summers ago fishing with my Mother and wife. We were fishing around Star Island on a big flat out there when I saw something right up close to shore that looked like a log. Well then the log flicked its tail and I thought to myself no way in hell that thing just moved. I had my Wife and mom come up on the casting deck in the front and I trimmed the big motor up and drove in the shallows to check it out. Well it was a big muskie and I mean big. It was sitting in about 2ft of water just sitting there in the sun. I drove up within 3 ft of it and it just sat there. I picked up my 6ft jerkbait rod and held it over the water to compare the two in length. I would say the rod was maybe 10 to 13 inches longer at the most. The fish then didnt like us that close so it swam a away and stopped. So I drove up there again and just looked at it. Its head was easily over a foot long and it was really thick accross the back and I mean thick. I have seen one picture that looks about like what I saw in the water. I have never seen a replica or mount bigger except the world record replica in reeds and I have held a guys replica that was caught on Lac seul that was a 55x27 muskie and this fish was a lot bigger. I know that fish would have beat the record by a fair margin. I know I was looking at a high 50's low 60's inch fish. That fish has haunted me ever since. I fish that spot everytime I am on Cass and have never seen it since that day. There is a deep water break right by that spot that I am sure it lives down in the deep and only comes up in the shallows when it is full and wants some sun.

What about Wabedo by Longville. I have seen some big fish in that lake. I know, the other lakes are the odds on favorite however Wabedo/Little Boy may surprise a few folks.

Wabedo is where I lost the biggest muskie I ever hooked about 10 years ago.

I'm going to go with Leech or Mille Lacs. Oct of 04' my uncle released a 55" ski that was nice and plump. Girth and length put it at 48-52 pounds. If she is still swimming out there, it's got to be a record breaker by now. Only problem is being able to catch her again.
