hammock1260
We camped at Duluth Tent and Campground. Something like that, just when you get through Duluth traveling from south to north. There is this campground just on the out skirts of town which would be the side of Gooseberry Falls. You can search for it on the net and see if anything comes up. IFallsRon
There's a campground in Two Harbors that's run by the city. The showers aren't the best.
Lund4ver
The campground in Two Harbors that is run by the city is called Burlington Bay Campground. Have stayed there a few times, but it is tough to get in as well, because there are more RV sites then tent sites. There are a few campgrounds south of Two Harbors as well that you could check out, but don't remember off hand their names. Its about 20 mins frfom the falls. The owners name is Randy he is a really nice guy. The shower house is really nice and clean. The number is 218-834-5044 or cell 218-349-8380. stoneeyes317
Not really "north shore" but I would recomend Snowflake campground off of Rice Lake Rd. on the outskirts of Duluth. the first place my wife and I ever camped at. We were the only ones there, very quiet, hard to believe you are within minutes of the city. Find other info @ skiduluth.com. I believe it's $15/night...eyes317

rascalP
This might be too late, but right off 61, on the way to Finland on HWY 1 theres a State Forest campground called Eckbeck and another right out of Finland. Small and primative, but clean and wooded beautiful sites on the Baptism River. Can almost always get a site when the State Parks are full. Close to Gooseberry AND Temperance River. IMO, Temperance is way more cool than Gooseberry and fewer people. Stop and walk - not a drive by
