Well I had to work all day saturday and watch the gorgeous weather from inside. On sunday I spent the morning helping cheffrey move all his furniture, beds, tv, ext, out to his cabin on Lake Nebagamon. We unloaded the trailer and then went to work on his boat. While I was patching some small holes from where the old transducer was his trolling mast fell from the top of the boat, (about 6 ft tall on the trailer) and landed on my foot breaking my big toe and shattering the nail. Well we went fishang anyways and managed a pike, an eye, and a huge bluegill in the evening. Slow to say the least, but still nice to be out.

Very good fishing Saturday near Danbury. My 9 yr old and I caught about 20 bass. 6 were 14-16 in. Same results Sunday near Somerset. Nearly all fish were bucks.

Main lake water temps 58. Warmer coves were 60. Some bedding activity but not a lot. Warmer nights now so spawn should be soon.

Story? My boy was just lifting his Chatterbait out of the water and a 24 in pike smacked it. The fish either jumped over 3 feet out of the water or my boy was so scared he jumped 3 ft nearly ripping the fish head off! Flying fish and red-faced boy. He's taking credit for a macho hook-set. I'm betting the scared theory.

Wasnt a great weekend for me by any means. I fished the Chippewa river a few miles downstream of the Chippewa Flowage. All i managed was a 22 inch pike. It was a decent weekend though and the weather wasnt too bad. Beats sitting around the house here in the metro.

Hit Balsam Lake at approximately 10:30 Saturday morning, May 6, and quit at about 6 p.m. Put in at the ramp near downtown, no problems.

Caught tons of largies, sometimes in successive casts. Pulled in maybe 13 or 14, all but one casting the docks and shoreline of that north end from the Rt46 ramp until the lake turns up north to Little Balsam. A couple were little bigger than the fluorescent orange Mepps #5 I was tossing at them, but most were good sized. At times, when I was able to, I dragged a crawler harness. Caught one rock bass that way.

After a late lunch at Fox Den, fished the mill pond there and pulled in a HOG (at least 3.5 pounds) right along the road. There, too, a good sized pike hit the same Mepps right at the boat, but spit it out. Unfortunately, I could get no other pike to hit anything. Marked tons of fish everywhere I went, all in the 7 to 12 foot deep range. Drifted across the main part of the lake, dragging my driftsock (windy as hell!) and caught a really nice perch. Returned all to the drink.

Except for the absence of northerns, it was a great day on the lake. Lots of boats out there, but not at all crowded.

What a place! Saw several eagles, including one that picked up something right nearby and proceeded to a tree to dine on his/her catch.

Can't wait for warmer water temps when the pike start a-hittin'

Safe fishing, everyone!!!!!!

Fished near Grantsburg on Saturday. 6 hours and 25 bass, some decent ones, but no real big ones. That's OK, but I've done considerably better on past openers. The cold wind in the morning was not terribly welcome. Water temp was about 54 when we launched and pushing 57 when we left.

Hiya Dietz !

I fished Deer lake right up the road from you on 8.

The wind got really nasty in the afternoon but had a good time. Managed some decent bass, crappies and sunnies.

I'll be fishing that area alot this summer, some co-workers live there. So we should hook up sometime, you can show me some Bass secrets and I'll show you the fine art of Bobber fishing Flu-flu's with a leech smile.gif

Tell your Dad not to waste his summer whatching Will & Grace and to get out there fishin'!! lol

On Saturday I fished Devil's Lake near Webster. I caught a lot of little fish off of docks using Senkos. I also caught a few early morning on rattle-traps. Only bad thing was that by about Noon I was fighting the flu bug. Ended the day early and spent the rest of the evening in bed and praying to the porcelain(sp?) god..

On sunday I fished on Upper and Lower clam near Siren. Main lake fish were nowhere to be found. Headed up the Clam river to the dam and began working my way back to the main lake and found some nice smallies in the river. I would have done better, but I was still fighting the flu bug. Was catching the smallies on a wacky-rigged Senko. Biggest fish was 18 1/2 inches. In the river the smallies were stiing on beds that were positioned on the backside of boulders. It was a good bite, but I just wasn't into it physically!!!

Interesting side notes thought...

#1---My buddies truck was clipped in the parking lot by a woman driving a truck with a trailer...put a huge ding in his door...

#2 My brother blew a tire near the Harris exit on 35. So we had to pull off his fender and change a flat!!!

Nice weekend eh!! frown.gif

I only managed a few hours fishing but the general reports for the area are walleyes going nuts on Wissota and crappies in shallow on Chetek, Wissota, and Altoona. Good numbers and ave of 9" on Chetek, fewer but much better size on Wissota and Altoona. I'll be on Wissota Wed or Thurs rain or shine. Something about foot long crappies, shallow brushy water, and slip bobbers gets me pumped!

Fished a couple of lakes in the Hayward area on Saturday. After a tough morning of walleye fishin, we put the canoe into a tiny little no-name lake and was rewarded with some monster crappie in the shallows. Exude Micro Shad on a 1/32 collarless jig did the trick. Couldn't buy a bite on my go-to tubes.

Back walleye fishin into the evening/night and managed 5 all on jig/minnow combo's. Water is still cold - 50 degree's and some of the male's hadn't finished their "business" yet blush.gif.

Mixed results. Sunday we fished Long Trade and caught a half dozen or so bass on soft jerk and spinnerbait. moved to a small lake near Webster and after we found them, we caught 60-70 crappies! Outstanding! No bobbers and no bait, just small jigs vertical and moving around. Big area too, and biting hard. Somebody always had one on. Biggest was 13". I let it go after a split decision in the boat. We still kept 8 10-11" that got et that night - side dish to the venison tenderloins.

Monday we fished Birch Island and got a few nice bass, biggest was 18", not great but nice. White Porko. Moved to Clam and got beat-up. Found some smaller fish in the way shallows(future slop). Tried Jerks and spinners in the 5-7ft for a long time- nothing. Finished the day on a small lake north of A&H. Had a blast catching very small bass twitching raps on light tackle plus a few bonus big crappies that we put back(didn't want to clean any fish that night after being pounded by the wind on Clam.)

Tuesday, we went to Shell to try for smallies. We only had 3 1/2 hours, first time on the lake, 2 smallies and 2LM, but all 16-18". 3 on X-rap, 1 on black worm. Will definitly go back.

Water temps were around 57-60 depending on the sun, time of day and area of the lake. Follow the wind to find the warmest water. Shell was 52-53.

All in all, A good few days and added 2 new lakes to the list.

Sorry Deitz, no good stories, just a dinged-up trailer light(operater error)
