Lower unit lube for a FICHT?

Random guy

Question

First off always double check the work a dealer does for you when they winterize boat! I couldn't take sitting around the house waiting for "the required healing time after surgery" so I went out to start going over the boat...finally. I popped the plug just to make sure the lower unit was full to my surprise I find milky watery lube! After a rant around the garage and a few phone calls to the dealer I decided I'm going back to doing 100% of my maintenance at home.

That said what have you outboard pros found to be the best lower unit lube for the FICHT motors? I really want to be careful what I use in this lower unit since I seem to shell one out every two years and cooked two of them last year.

Don't get me wrong I had it coming; high HP, big stainless prop, jack plate and driving like I stole the boat is 90% of the problem with the lower unit, I just figured the best lube I can buy can't hurt.

I would also vot for Amsoil!!

Head right up the road to Fleet Farm. They now carry it in a lower unit oil too. That is where I found mine.

I'm figured the water is coming somewhere, I don't even want to think about another rebuild, new seal and oil and away we go! grin.gif

Jon, what motor do you have? WHat pitch Stainless are you running?

I was looking at a better hole shot prop(using factory prop)

My 1750 FishHawk tops at 44mph with the live wells full. So I don't mind losing a little top end.

But I don't want to be over reving and or do what you have done. grin.gif

I have the 99 90hp FICHT.
