wave wackers and a trolling motor

Pikemaster101

Question

I am looking to get a new trolling motor for my boat and I want a 70 thrust Minn kota with the longest shaft. A few things though. First would i rather have just the plain old minn kota or the maximum what is the difference. Second what is the longest shaft i can get in a 70 thrust. Last is would i mount it my self or have a boat dealer do it and how much would they charge to do that.

While I am posting i also would like some wave wackers but if i were to get them i would need a cut out for a kicker. where would i get these. Could i also have a boat dealer put these on and order them for me and for how much or are they easy enough for me to put them on my self. Finnaly how much would these cost.

Go to wavewackers.com and they have there contact info on there. Just give them the model, year of boat location of kicker, etc. and they will make them for you.

Hi

Check out Whitecap Splashguards,

cost for your boat would be $187.00 - pretty easy to put on yourself or have installed for $30.00

I have looked long and hard at Splashguards and have yet to make a decision as I'm still trying to decide on them.

I have sent a couple of e-mails to Whitecap and have never received a response from them, so I just gave up on them and started to look at other brands frown.gif .

I have really started to take a look at Wavewackers and they look like a great product. Does anyone else have feedback on them?

Paul, I don't have a feedback about the use of them, but I just sold a 2003 Lund Explorer that had them on. Boat was damaged bad...really bad, the darn wackers where perfect.....and it had been rearended then flipped over.....I should have taken them off, these are tough stuff.

Wavewackers are what I had on my Alumacraft and my boat before that. Really good product, really good design. The rubber piece between the kicker and the big motor did a fair job of keeping water out, the problem is it needs to be flexible for when the motors are turned or trimmed and the heavy rubber has a little sag or bend to it. Also, the plexiglass piece between my kicker and gunnel got a small crack in it from the weight of the kicker while tilted out of the water and running across the lake, but the crack was there for years and never got any worse. The cutout for a transom electric motor worked very well.

Wavewackers are a little pricier but I think the design and service is outstanding. Good luck.

I just put whitecap splash guards on my Alumacraft Dominator. I could not be happier with the service from Brian Berle who ownes the outfit. I called and spoke to him and he was very helpful. I got the guards UPS in about 2 days. Installed myself.....very easy. Excellent product for the price. The fit and finish is outstanding. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I've been thinking of them for a while on my console boat for safety on big water. I would take them off for tubing/skiing and trailering. For Wavewackers, Whitecaps and Walleye Masters what is left on the boat when you take them off? Anything to scraped a limb on?

Either the Wave Wackers or Whitecap are fine products and both will do the job. Wave Wackers have a more polished look.

I would suggest that you check out the MinnKota Vector. If you plan to use the motor mainly for backtolling this is the motor. Minkota has worked out the kinks of their previous offerings. They beefed up the motor and the adjustable steering tiller is worth the added cost. Check it out before buying.

I have had WalleyeMaster splashguards on my boats for the last 10 years and I have had great luck. I tried out Wave Wackers on a big tiller boat just like mine and when I turned the outboard the splash guards would flex on each side, which I think could lead to a crack with enough use. I believe this occurs because of the stiffer rubber they use around the engine side of the guards. I don't have this problem with the WalleyeMaster guards.

I like the looks of the wrap-around design on the Wave Wackers, but to be honest I don't think it does much but add a little more stability to the guards that isn't really needed. I trailer several hundred miles a year and have had zero problems with the WalleyeMaster guards loosening, fracturing do to stress, etc.

They're a great splashguard and installed, even on a large boat, are around $180 - if I remember right.

This is just my opinion, and I'm not an employee or friend of the manufacturer of WalleyeMasters in any way; just a picky customer who has been pleased with the product. If you like to backtroll, you'll be happy with any of the guards mentioned in response to your post.

Good luck!
