Has anybody been out on Waubay fishing for walleye's yet this year??? They should be biting. I have been hearing that they are catching them out from the access by grenville, might be worth taking the boat out there and checking it out.

It seems pretty quiet around here. Looking to head west next weekend to try for some eyes myself, but am not sure what lake to try. Mostly catch and release. Wouldn't mind a couple small ones for tablefare.

There are so many to choose from, but not sure yet. Any reports from waubay or surrounding lakes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Alot of small ones being caught also we caught at least 6 that were around 12" or better. Its not too hard to find the fish. We were fishing a point in 7-9fow that had rocks and a few weeds. Slip bobbers and jigs both produced really well. We anchored on the spot and only moved when we needed more minnows grin.gif

I just talked to three guys who fished Waubay the last two evenings. No problem getting their two eaters each plus quite a few releases. Lots of small fish and no big releases. They anchored on a point. Two slip bobbered and one jigged.

They fished Bitter earlier in the day and zipped on walleyes but mangaged a few snakes.

Just wanted to post results...Went down and fished Sat. from about 11:00 til 6:00 Three of us boated around 50-60 walleyes..avg length was 17-18 in..caught very few smaller than that..We anchored by trees and pitched jigs and slip bobbered..1/16 white jig worked the best...5-8 ft of water was all we fished.. My question is will the fish be bunched up and shallow next weekend??? If anyone has that answer please post..thx

I would say yes. Ive caught them eyes up there in the shallower water (less than 10 feet) and also in the trees well into the beginning of summer. It doesnt look like theres gonna be any kind of heat wave this week to push them out to deeper water. i remember last year i anchored my boat in about 2 feet of water southeast of grenville and pitched jigs out into 5-7 feet and pounded eyes all day!! That was right in the middle of May.

I may have to try that this weekend also, its always a hell of a day whwn you can catch and release upwards of 100 eyes in a day!!!

Dear "take-em":

Hope this helps-

Three of us fished Waubay 4/23-25 (Sun-Tue). Great weather except Monday. No problem getting 2 fish limits each day. Caught 6 -10 fish per hour, no 100 fish day type bite, but consistent and fish seem a little larger than previous years.

We put in at Kanago landing. Action in 8-12 ft. of water in several spots near this landing. Used 1/4 oz. white jigheads and fatheads.

one of the best places is right around the dock. everytime i come back in the boat to load up, there will be kids fishing from the kanago dock hammering them. Denholm's bay (south)is decent too. Too many areas to list. Duck island area is good.

2.80 a gallon is going to seem cheap by this time next year. You better get out there Mike. Just bring the friends along that normally are left behind because they are annoying. Thats what I do...

went last night in the sprinkle just to catch a couple for supper. Started with jig/minnow and caught many. Switched to casting plugs off a point then near a little honey hole in the trees. The plugs produced a couple bigger fish. Timmy--better come back.

OK,

These reports are killing me and I've cracked. I'll be fishing the area this comming weekend hopefully with similiar reports as detailed above. What general depth has been holding fish?

i usually don't bother fishing in the spring until late in the evening. fished from 6-8 pm. In that time the fish are pretty shallow. In my first loc. boat sat in about 8ft and pitched into 4. The tree area was about the same. caught them deeper too though. 10-12ft
