Bob/Mn
I have a 1958 Evenrude gas tank that has rust inside the tank. Any suggestions on how to remove the rust? Thank you.
0 harvey lee
If you were to take it to a radiator shop they could cook it out and then if the tank is a liitle bad inside they can epoxy it.You will then be good as new.I had this done on a older tractor tank and it worked very well. 0 Macgyver55
What I have done with small tanks in a pinch is to put in several handfuls of small gravel and a about half of a tank of water and shake the heck out of it. Then rinse it out well, VERY well a couple times, and blow it out dry with compressed air and let it dry overnight. It sounds crude but it works surprisingly well. I just did this to a tank on an old riding lawn mower that had been sitting for years and it literally looked like new inside when I finished. 0 Bobb-o
had this same problem with a used 3-wheeler, i used a process similar to what macgyver used but i used BBs instead so that i wouldnt have as much of a problem with dirt in the tank when i was done. 0 King Canada
There is aproduct that will coat the inside of a tank. Used it on an old motorcycle and it really worked. Don't remember it's name but the big auto parts stores carry it.
0 FRESHWATER PETIE
Time to invest in a new plastic gas tank.
0 Surface Tension
I think he has a pressurized tank so replacing it with plastic isn't an option. The sand and gravel might be enough to remove the majority of rust. The tank liner is an option but its a little spendy if I remember right.
