0 deepportage01
24v is the way to go 55-75lbs of trust should do it,as far as shaft goes if you go on a lot of big watter and dont want it coming out of the water get 54-62inch shaft.i have a 54 inch and i wish i would have gone to the 62inch shaft
0 MuskyNutz
24 VOLT DEFINITELY. IF COST DOESN'T SCARE YOU GO WITH AT LEAST THE 74 LBS., FOR A BOAT OF THAT WEIGHT YOU COULD GET BY WITH A BIT LESS BUT ITS WORTH HAVING IF FISHING IN HIGHER WINDS OR ANY CURRENT. AS FOR SHAFT LENGTH, LONGER IS ALWAYS BETTER AS YOU CAN ALWAYS RUN WITH IT UP HIGHER. I WOULD DO 62" IF YOU FIND YOURSELF OUT IN ALOT OF WIND, HOWEVER YOU COULD GET BY WITH THE 54 ON THAT SIZE BOAT. I HAVE HAD BOTH MAXXUMS AND POWERDRIVES. THIS REALLY COMES DOWN TO PERSONAL PREFERENCE. IF YOU DO ALOT OF WALLEYE FISHING THE CO-PILOT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO. IF YOU'RE A CAST AND BLAST TYPE OF GUY, THE MAXXUM IS HARD TO BEAT FOR QUICK TURNING RESPONSE AND EASIER CLEANING WEEDS OFF IN THE SLOP. IF YOU'RE A DUAL PURPOSE GUY, GO WITH THE CO-PILOT, IT'S WORTH THE EXTRA $$.
0 tyeeme
I was also looking for a new trolling motor and researched them heavily. It sounds like the newer MG's are okay but it comes down to service if you live close to Oklahoma then it might be a good choice. But I have had both and had problems with both but to have someone close who will service the minnkota is great you have no worries. Minnkota 70# or 74# 60" shaft and copilot a must if you can afford autopilot get it it is a extra $200 (I have this on a 1750 tyee grandsport). The remote for the MG is different also it is more delayed and does not have the momentary feature which I think is a must. Good luck and keep us posted on your decision. 0 ND Jig Head
I also have a 2000 Lund 1700 Fisherman with a 125 Merc. I have a MinnKota 50 # PD 12v up front and when the wind blows it is not enough power. I plan to replace it with 70 # 24v.
0 Northlander
24 volt with 74-80#. Longest shaft possible and get outo pilot and universal sonar. Minkota. Never wished I didnt have so much power. I will be going to that exact set up soon. My 55# isnt enough in ruff waters and I have a Lund Explorer 17'er.
