Dusty
What type/brand of line do you recommend for slip bobber fishing?
WalleyeStriker
Depends on what your fishing for... Are you slip bobbering for Walleye?Panfish/Crappies? Me personally I use Trilene XL Smooth Casting 8lb for Walleye. Then if I'm panfishing I use 4lb Cajun Advantage. Hope this helps ya!
fisherman
Definately mono. Braided twists and gets tangled up all to often. I like stren easy cast 6lb for walleyes and 4lb for pannies.
WalleyeStriker
The only way I'll use braided line is if I'm icefishing with Tipups going after Walleye/Northern/Muskie. And If im trolling for Northerns or Muskies. Hard to believe anyone using braided line for slip bobbering.. If you do.. You might know something I don't! MuskyBug85
If you want to use braid i have had ok sucess with fireline the only complaint i had was with a thin diam line like that is that the stop moves really easily on 4 and 8Lb. the heavier stuff like 14lb is still pretty good for slippin' eyes. waltinader
Another good braided line that I like to use is Power pro
WalleyeStriker
MuskyBug, When you mean 4-8lbs do you mean mono or braid? Because if you are having trouble with the bobber stop going up or down.. you might want to pull on the two-ends of the stop to tighten it up a little.. Just my 2 cents~
Rost
I use two diferent lines per slip bobber rig. I usually run Berkley XL (8-10 lb) down to a barrel swivel, then run a 2 ft leader of 6 lb line down to the hook.
MuskyBug85
4 and 8lb fireline
Dusty
I am not into bobber fishing much and the times I have tried it, I seem to have trouble getting the line to slide through the bobber. I normally use the Power Pro and Berkly XL for my other fishing styles. I was just wondering if a stiffer non memory type of line would work better than the XL. Rost
XL is the best low memory line out there in my opinion. Is your line old? Old line can have a lot of memory. Maybe you are not using enough weight?
Borch
Usually if you're having trouble getting the line to feed through the bobber one of the following is going on.1. Hole in bobber is too small or has a burr/crack in it.2. Line has twists/loops, etc in it.3. Not enough weight to deal with the water tension on the line. Especially true in wavy conditions and on longer casts.I use a lot of Silverthread 8# test on my bobber rigs. I like the wave buster bobbers for fishing in water less then 25 ft deep with low to moderate winds. The line feeds through these very nicely. When fishing deeper or really windy conditions I up my bobber size and weight on the line. Really helps with the feeding the line through and the fish don't bite during these conditions as they are generally pretty aggressive anyways during these condtions. When I use braided line I use fireline or power pro and cinch the bobber stop up with a couple needle nose pliers. I also use a leader tied to a barrel swivel of mono/flourocarbon line in the 6-8 lb test for eyes.Good Luck!
marine_man
Quote:the only complaint i had was with a thin diam line like that is that the stop moves really easily on 4 and 8Lb. I use superbraids on my ice fishing rods extensivley. I've had good luck with the dog bone style bobber stop when I use a bobber... just make sure you only wrap it two or three times at the most around the dog bone.marine_man
