CatManLee
Wow, was that caught in MN? It looks like you caught it in a lake? I know there are bigguns out there, but never seen one that big myself. I know it's a sheephead, but anyone would have fun catching that thing. My biggest to date from river fishing has only been about 6lb's and I though that was a good sized one. Congrats. Maashkinoozhe
The otoliths in that thing would be huge!! Did you catch that one in the Mississippi?Dave D
Dan Thiem
WHOA! That thing looks like a mutant on steroids. What's in the belly of that thing? My biggest is only 6.8 lbs. It's shadowed by yours. Nice sheepie dude! Here's mine.
RBuker
Nope, that one was taken on a lake in west central Minnesota. There are some big ones in that lake but this monster is the largest I've ever seen. Took me by surprise.
Tyler Holm
Holy Drum. That's a brusier. It almost looks like it just spawned with the belly sag.
Ralph Wiggum
Wow! By "West-Central Minnesota" are we talking the Spicer area? I've gotten a ton out of Norway Lake, but none near that big!

Roughfisher
My biggest sheephead was about half that size. Also from a Western Minnesota Lake. And it was delicious!
Kurt Paulsen
Ah HA! So I am not the only one out there eating these! I would say I eat drum more often than any other fish. When you have a few in the 1-3lb range you can treat them just like tilapia. I sometimes cook 'em whole or filleted. They do have some great white meat! That thing is absolutely ridiculous by the way! Wow.
Bobb-o
are there alot of bones in them like in other rough fish? (northern, walleye, bass, etc?)
Kurt Paulsen
I have found that they have a simple rib cage more similar to a panfish than carp or sucker.
Tyler Holm
I just picked this one up. Thought I would throw it in the mix. It doesn't compare to the ones above, but it was caught on a 6'6" UL rod with 4# mono. New personal best!
Ralph Wiggum
On the advice here, I filleted one up and fried it over the 4th. It was great!

rushing
I dont know excatly what my largest weighed, maybe 5-6lbs but I can tell you what I caught him on. I caught him while out flathead fishing on the Blue Earth river. That crazy sheepie took a 7in bullhead! Well I should say tried to take it. I didnt really hook the sheepie I just pulled him in, the bulhead was wedged so tight in his mouth that if it wasnt for me pulling the thing out sheepie woulda died. silly drum
DTro
Here's one a co-worker caught on one of our spring river trips. It was the biggest I've seen yet. I know there are much bigger ones though. BTW he kept a bunch and cooked them up. He said it was one of the best tasting fish he's had.
Kyle Sandberg
That 18 pounder may be huge but it is dwarfed in comparison to the state record. 35 lbs. 3 oz THAT IS A HUGE SHEEPSHEAD. Just imagine trying to reel that sucker in.
