Poutslayer and I got back from Crow on monday the 26th and we had real good laker fishing. We had a 14 fish day and a 10 fish day. Biggest was 28" and the ave. was about 23". The ice was real good with 18" most every where we went and about 4 inches of snow. We travelled everywhere on 4 wheelers. We also spent a couple days on sabaskong bay mostly around wolf island. Much more snow and slush on LOW and our success was so so. We brought in 20 crappies each day between 10-12 inches with lots of little ones tossed back. However much hole drilling and moving was the norm. Once again the stay at Muskie Bay was very enjoyable with Chris and Paul helpful as ever. The lakers are hitting if you got time for one more trip.

Glad to hear you did well. I was up in the area too, not on crow but nearby lakes. We didn't have near the success you did, we thought it was pretty slow. Just curious, what did you find that worked? We were mostly on sharp breaks, 40-60 feet of water, using tubes and airplanes. we caught a few nice ones, but the numbers were low. I ended up pretty sunburned, hard to remember to put sunblock on in the winter.

We did well in that same depth but actually caught fish from 25' to 100'. We caught most of our fish in the afternoon and cloudy or sunny didn't seem to matter. Pout caught fish on a blue fox tingler, white tubes and dead sticking big shinners. I used white berkley power grubs almost all the time. It was my first trip out of six that I didn,t catch a fish on a white tube jig. It seemed to help to tip the power grubs with small shinners although I caught them both ways.

GTG,

Just got back myself. We had very good action on large flats adjacent to deep water. Best depths for us were 65' - 70' of water. Sharp breaks were unproductive. We caught most of our fish on home made feather jigs and big soft plastic swim shad jigs.

Here's a couple of the bigger fish.

37 inch

39 inch

We also caught a 43 inch, but I don't have a picture of that on my camera. I'll post it when I get a copy of it. It was a horse.

Just like the rest of my ice season this year, none of these big fish were caught by me. frown.gifconfused.gif

I'm thinking of changing my name to theygotem. smirk.gif

Wow, nice fish! What a trip that must have been for your group, perfect weather, perfect conditions, and fish like that! Can you clarify, are you saying you were fishing on flats that were 70' deep, adjacent to water even deeper than that? Or shallow flats adjacent to 70' water?

G2G,

We were fishing on expansive flats and the most productive depth was 60 - 70 FOW. These areas were basically shelfs coming off large islands or mainlake reefs. There wasn't any sharp break to them just a very gradual drop into deep water 200'+. We fished from 40' out to 90', but all our fish were being caught in that 60' to 70' range so that's were we began to concentrate our efforts once we established that pattern. Good luck to you next time you're up.

By the way, we were fishing in the area, but not on Crow lake. I've actually have never fished Crow, but would like to someday. Too much water, not enough time. I need to quit working. frown.gif

Igotem. Nice super sized fish. I'm green with envy. We were at Crow over the weekend as well. We caught about 20 lakers over two days, but none over 6lbs. We couldn't get anything to hit in water deeper than 50 feet. Next time I'm on Crow, I'm going to look for that red sled. What a great weekend to spend fishing.

Igotem....

I thought those might be a little big for some Crow Lakers, I could see catching one that size, but three would be an awesome feat on that lake. Plus the pictures show some wide open expansive areas, too many islands on Crow to get views like that. No need to tell where you wrassled dem beasts from, although thanks for clarifying that they were not caught on Crow. Congrats man, that must of been some good fun fighting fish that size.

Igotem, I'll throw a crazy guess out there, and I know there are the occasional trout netted there....were you down by the angle, just into the Canadian side?......That's not massacre island in the background is it? (The distant island.)
