Tonneau Covers

Mugsaway

Question

I am in the market now to buy a new tonneau cover. I've been told to go with the Access but have recently found another that seems practically the same - Extang RT.

Does anyone have the Extang and if so have you had any problems? It appears that the Extang is more of a low profile cover than the Access and looks like they both work the same.

Thanks for the response

I've got the Access cover on my pickup. My opinion, its the best darn cover out there! I absolutely love it. Its easy to install & adjust and looks pretty slick too. Its probably the most functional accessory I've put on my pickup.

I used to have a cover with the support bows and the snaps around the outside. What a pain in the a$$ that thing was. If I rolled it up in the winter, the cover shrunk up so much that you couldn't get it resnapped. What a bummer that was. I've never had any similar problems with the Access cover.

Don't know much about the Extang cover. Whatever you get, you'll enjoy it.

I second the thought on the Access cover. I have had 3 of them and have loved every one of them. While at the SEMA show in Vegas last Nov. I chated with both the ACCESS people and the Extang people and all's I can say is customer service has alot to do in my book. Also after looking at the Extang, I feelit's an inferior product. The Material used doesn't seem to be as heavy duty and the closing/locking system seems hokey. Just my opinion though.

I looked at the Access, but went with the Truxedo cover. If you search the web you can find the best deal some where out there.

The reason I went with the Truxedo is because it has temperature sensitive tensioners. So when its hot or cold the cover adjusts and stays tight all the time, but not so tight that you can't close it when its really cold out. Easy to adjust, but a really nice feature to have.

I have the Access cover on my truck, and I will say that it is one heck of a great cover and I have almost no gripes about it.

However, my father has a Truxedo on his truck and after seeing both of them in hot, cold and any other weather that Minnesota can toss at us, I will say the Truxedo would be my next choice. It seems to "latch" a bit more solid when you close it, and the lip near the tailgate doesn't pop up a little as does my access cover at times.

Can't go wrong with the Truxedo! (or Access for that matter)

I have the Access and couldn't be happier. Make sure the locking tab underneath is not slightly "closed" when snapping down the end bar. The new Access covers have locking tabs on both sides of the cover now. Mine end bar has never "snapped up" yet.

Ok,

The Truxedo has come up a bit. I'll take a look at those also. I assume that the bars are attached to the top like the Access?. What model are you using?

Thank you, I appreciate the responses.

I have the standard one for a short box chev. They do have a new low profile model now as well that looks sharp, but I need all the height under the cover that I can get with my portable shelters.
