Composting Toilets

luckey

Question

Does anyone use a composting toilet in their cabin or hunting shack? We are looking at a non electric, waterless unit but would like to get information from some people who currently use one. Brand, effectiveness, problems, good points, etc. Thanks

My buddy has one at his cabin and it does work slick...I think it is electric though as there is a fan that pulls air out...essentially dehydrating what goes in...Not sure on the brand but I could check if you are interested...

I have known several people who use them and they all report the units work just fine. But every once in a while they have to go to town, or some place civilized, to use a bathroom. Seems they just miss the satisfying sounds of a big ol' toilet flushing! Gllluuu Whooooossssssh!! It brings closure.

If you have a cabin the non electric option makes sense because most folks turn the power off when they leave anyway.

I know someone that had one at their cabin and it seemed to be able to handle a moderate weekend load. As with anything, I'm sure theres a point where it couldn't keep up, not sure what that threshold is. Do they have an industrial model?
