HonkerDown
Headin to waubay this weekend any reports would be greatly app. ....................Hey Tyler when you talked about the south flats which area were you talking about.
Tyler Holm
I'm talking about the 22 - 26 FOW mud flats that are directly East of the SW boat ramp. There are a few humps and holes out there that seem like they should hold fish, but I've always done better on the flats. I've had my best luck in 23FOW
Rost
I believe Tyler is talking about the massive flat off the Kanagle boat landing. If you drive directly north (about 4 miles) out of Webster on HWY 25, there is a sign that will direct you right to it. Tyler, correct me if I am wrong. Tyler Holm
Rost is correct (I think). I'm not fimiliar with the term "Kanagle". I'm refering to the public (free) boat landing on the SW side of Waubay. Go straight East of the boat ramp about anywhere from 1-3 miles and you will find the mud flats I'm talking about. WalleyeMan45
I believe Rost is referring to "kanago". It's the landing on the SW end of the lake right off of highway 25. We have done well for eyes in the spring near the ramp, but have not ice fished the area.
Tyler Holm
Quote: right off of highway 25 I don't believe there is a ramp right off Hwy 25. To get to the public ramp I'm referring to, go North on 25 about 3.5 miles (from Webster) and as the road bends towards the right, take a right on the gravel. Head East 1.5 miles and turn North at the stop sign. In 1/2, the ramp is on your right.
ratso
I was in waubay for 5 days this last week...Be prepared to drill a lot of holes if you plan on perchin!! And if you plan on catching any eyes lots of patience.. Wallopped the crappies though....big crappies, 12 to 14in. Caught some perch and some eyes but just not like waubay used to be.... Too much pressure. And even withe the reduced limit, the fish that do get returned are often bladder ruptured and die shortly after. This is a great lake in some unique country it is too bad it was destroyed so fast.

HonkerDown
Hey Ratso any chance you would give up some info on where to catch those big crappies, I am not real familiar with the lake especially crappies.
percherman
Has anybody tried the sunken island straight east of the boat ramp 3-4 miles from kanago it is small but has produced some very good #s of perch and eyes for me in the past. I dont have gps coordinates can just drive to it, sorry. The west edge is the best it goes from a depth of 8ft to 23ft and there is a drop off edge with a long point on it.I have not fished it yet this year, so cannot report. Tyler Holm
I got a tip from somebody a few years ago about that spot and tried it once or twice. The eyes seemed to be around, but I didn't have much for perch. We moved 100+ yards away from the hump and did much better on the perch. Technically it should be a good spot to fish, but I've never smacked'em there.
Captain B.R.K
Hey Tyler and other tips you have on Waubay or the area lakes there? My buddies (2 of them) and I make a run over to Webster each year in March to fish eyes and perch. We are coming over the weekend of March 4th, just staying for a day. We are pretty much open to whatever lake is hitting. Look forward to hearing from you!
Tyler Holm
Capt,Glad to see your going to make it over and wet a line. Stay tuned... as I don't have any super current reports from the area. I'll be at the Zumbro Zinger in Rochester that weekend.
Captain B.R.K
My ears are open I think the plan is to come over for the day to hit some of the glacial lakes near Waubay Saturday. Unless another artic blast comes through or old mother nature decides to whip up some real gusty winds....why then we might have to look at our game plan!!
