It's been pretty quiet here lately, so I decided to post a few pictures I've taken over the last few weeks.

and finally a darn Coyote disturbing the peace!!

Awesome pics!!! Pretty neat to see not only all the waterfowl, but the coyote running behind. I really like what you did with the second picture.

Hey Buzz, good work on staying alert and spotting that coyote running along. You were at least as alert as the geese, whose necks are stretching so they can eye the danger.

Wow, Thanks gentlemen! I was using Photoshop Elements 4.0 and I believe the feature was called "poster picture" on that second photo. Steve, I was made aware of that Coyote by the cackling of the geese and ducks... they got loud and I was thinking were is the hawk or eagle and then it appeared!

I'll be heading out over lunch today being that the sun is shinning. I went after work last night in the dusk and it was impossible to get any stop action on the wing flaps... total blur!

Nice pics there Buzzsaw. Could you tell us what you are using for a camera and what settings you are at with these types of "in air" pics? I want to get out one of these days and try to get some nice shots for the photo book.

Hi fisherEd, I have a Nikon D50 digital camera and I always have my settings on "Aperture Priority" and in direct sunlight go down - 0.7 EV to compensate for blowing out my whites. I set it to ISO auto and it's usually at ISO 400 in that auto mode. Just as important if not more so, is using a good lens and I had on a Nikkor 80-400mm VR AF lens that is pretty sweeeeet. There are other settings that I change in the camera to adjust for whatever picture I am taking ie.. center wieghted, I can also do in camera sharpening or color adjustments... but I think doing those on your computer with a good post processing software would be a better way to go. Those are all important, but it's the person behind the camera that ultimately makes the difference... you need to pick good area's to take pictures to use the sunlight correctly, background is also important. Steve, Hobby, Tom, Jonny and alot of other guys can help as well with any questions

Thanks for the info. I'm currently thinking of placing my N65 on the shelf and get the D50. I already have the Nikor lenses so all I need is the body. I've taken a lot of high speed action shots with the "N" but go through a lot of film to get a few good shots. Digitals are nice. Don't like the pic, hit delete. Thanks for posting the great pics.

I had a veryy close encounter with a hungry Woodchuck over lunch today! That thing came right at me... then stopped and looked and then came closer and then stopped and looked.. I was snappin' pictures thinking he better not get too much closer as he might be thinking my leg looks like food and I'd end up being Buzz the one legged photographer wannabe.

Great shots. That is 1 super sharp lens. You can count the feathers. I was looking at photos on the weather underground HSOforum and someone had taken pics of some bald eagles with a Nikon D70. They were only about 1/4 frame and every one was out of focus. I'm wondering if it was that bad of a lens or if he had the camera on manual focus and didn't know it. Even the eagles on the ground were out of focus. I thought that was a very poor example for a Nikon. Yours are much easier on the eyes. Keep them coming.

X-tackleman: Doesn't matter what the brand of camera or quality of the glass. If the technique is off, all the quality in the world won't fix things. And as far as Buzz goes, he has good equipment, but no better equipment than many. Buzz has developed a strong technique in a short time, and that's why his images are sharp and his work compelling.

oh Catfish, I could just give you a big old bear hug! I really appreciate the compliment, it means something coming from you... X, I must give alot of credit to Tom Wilson and Hobbydog!! I have spent time with them over the past few months and they have been more than willing to help me out with my learning curve, they both have taken the time to e-mail me in detail settings that they recommend, pros and cons of different things and post processing software questions as well! One more thing, with glass, you get what you pay for and you'll probably never have enough.... it's an addiction!

P.S. I just saw the woodchuck pics and it was coming right at me, I'll post them later

With the exception of the Coyote picture, only one of these duck pictures were cropped, the rest are all full frame pictures. Have a good week guys.
