korupt21
I used my new Jiffy STX auger for the first time last night. Two questions into it's performance, advice, thoughts would be much appreciated.... 1) When I pull the cord to start it, the auger may run for 1-2 beats then suddenly stop with a " clank ". The best I can describe the sound is like a metal on metal jam. Then I pull the cord agian and it starts right up and idles fine. 2) When I push the throttle to engage the blade, the auger seems to jerk into action and does this as I continue to give it more throttle pressure. It also seems to be " jerky " as the blade rotates. Is this normal? Does the auger just need to be broken in?
LEECH21
My 8" 2hp Jiffy Stealth does the same thing??? I hate that metal clank sound! One time the engine stopped and it "clanked" and a plastic piece off the pull cord thing broke off!

Flash
I thought there was something wrong with mine with the clank sound but was told the gears are sealed and well lubbed and not to worry. Was told the main thing with the Jiffy is to run it wide open the whole time you cut. Now I have oil & gas collecting around the muffler. Was told to take it to a authorized Jiffy repair shop and have them look at it. Of course, the repair guy is gone on vacation and won't be back til monday. I am not all that sold on Jiffy.Flash"Set the Hook"

eyechaser99
Are you guys letting it run for a while before you drill a hole or go out? I start mine at home before I go and mine doesnt do that. When Ive set it on the snow for a while and want to drill a hole you have to let the engine warm up again. My friends Strikemaster is the same way.

My friends Strikemaster is the same way. thats what I do with my jiffy STX 9" blade, except I dont start it at home but I should do that in case something goes wrong and have a backup to bring. But when I start it up, it does not run smooth but I let it warm up for a min or so and runs great.
korupt21
Yes, I did both infact. Ran it at home, and let it warm up for a couple minutes until I feel it getting warm.
kslipsinker
The Jiffy clutch requires about a year to break in. It will "clunk" for a while, but it won't hurt a thing. I have had mine for four years now and it works like a champ.
