Lohse tops Twins in arbitration, to earn $3.95 million

Pioneer PressPitcher

Kyle Lohse won his salary arbitration case against the Twins for the second consecutive year.

The right-hander will make $3.95 million in 2006 rather than the $3.4 milion the Twins offered.

Lohse was 9-13 in 2005, the same record he had a year earlier. His ERA dropped to 4.18 from 5.34 but he made 30 starts, four fewer than in 2004. He made $2.4 million last year rather than the club's $2.15 million offer.

The case was heard Monday by arbitrators Dan Brent, Stephen Goldberg and Steven Wolf.

He is good for batting practice!!!!!!!!!!!

Lohse has good stuff but his 2 biggest problems are that he can't stay away from the BIG inning and he is to emotional on the mound. When a teammate makes a error or he doesn't get the call from the ump he goes into Meltdown mode!!!

I would rather have Lohse than Mays. If Lohse can pitch this year like he pitched during the last half of the season. We'll be in good shape. That will give us a very good starting 4 with Santana, Radke, Silva, Lohse then Baker and Liriano fighting for that 5th spot.

We don't have to worry about the pitching staff. We need these guys to be swing the bats consistently!

The book has been the same on lohse for the last few years. the only thing is he is full of "ifs", if he can stay away from the big inning, if he can keep controll, if he can have a breakout year this year, if he can pitch like he did for part of last year. The guy was supposed to have a breakout year two years ago. Yes he does have good stuff but it seems he can't apply it for six or sevens innings on a regular basis. I don't know but another 9-13 season doesn't cut it for me.

As a teacher that makes less in one year than he will make per inning, all I have to say is that 9 wins in 30 starts, means if I do a good job at teaching Math and Reading once every 3 days, and let the kids go crazy the other days, I should be able to ask my school board for a 75% raise! How about that, I have been working too hard all these years!

he did have a 4.18 ERA last year. can't remember who, but someone just signed with another team for 8.95 mil, and he had a ERA over 5 last year.

lohse had very bad run support last year, so his 9-13 record should have been better. lohse is still young, and has the potential to do good. if he had last years ERA for a top offensive team last year, he probally would have won close to 20 games.

lets hope he can do a 4.18 or better this year.
