Another Marcum LX-3 question???

hondavxr

Question

This is the first time I have used my LX-3 with the TC upgrade since it being shipped to Marcum for a bad transducer. I was fishing in about 34 ft of water and I had to set the gain to around 6 to see my jig. It was a size 8 ratso and minnow. I was fishing suspended around 25-30 ft. Is this a common gain setting for about 34 ft of water? My friends Vex that was sitting right next to me only needed a 2.5 gain setting. I think this is the last draw for this LX-3, I am trading or upgrading this thing. Thanks for the replies in advance.

I also have an LX-3 which I sent in earlier this season for the TC upgrade. I have not used mine much this season, but I dont recall ever having to turn mine up past 3...no matter the depth. A setting of 6 sounds pretty high to me....I would be interested in hearing what other LX-3 owners have to say....

I just had the TC upgrade and my transducer replaced a week ago and tried it on Friday. At 4 I could make out my blood knot in 26 feet of water, so I'd try to find another LX3 user in your area and swap transducer and see if the problem follows the transducer or stays with your unit. Good Luck! McGurk

I fixed it myself!!!! Yes, I couldn't dread sending this unit in again for the third time. I switch the tranducer and now it works like a charm. Looks like the so called "NEW" transducer Marcum gave me was probably a "NEW" refurbish one. I notice that the new transducers are actually two prong contact on the connector. And the old ones were actually three prong contact on the connnector plug. Does somebody know why the old ones were 3 prong contact and the new transducer are 2 prong contact? The two prong contact ducer works just like the 3.

Bringing back an old thread...how did you switch the transducer hondavxr? Where did you get another one? Mine just started acting up again last night and I had to turn the gain up to about 3.5. It had been just below 2 all night and all of a sudden my jig disappearred until I turned it up. Took it out again tonight and again had to have it at 3.5. I've already had to send mine in twice as well and I do not want to send it in again...I just want a new ducer. Mine must be a refurbished one as well since it has the 3 prong contact.

I switched it with one of my friend's tranducer. He had a extra one. Call Marcum see if they will ship you out a new transducer with the two contact. I notice that when I put my old three contact point one one my friends new LX-3TC it behaved the same way as it was on mine, messed up. Ever since I switched over to the new two contact one, I have yet to have problems. Only have to set the gain around 1.5 fishing in 40 ft of water. If you have a friend with the newer Marcums, ask them if you borrow their ducer, I am almost certain it's the ducer and not your head unit.

The TC upgrade is worth all the pennies. Now you could actually tell that it's a yellow, green, or red. As with the older color, it was like- is that orange, yellowesh red, or red orange. It's like a night and day difference. You could even see the colors in the direct sun light.

It's up to you really. I could have fished this thing in two color (yellow/red)that's how much the LX-3 means to me.

I have the TC upgrade and I love it... No longer do I miss the orange signal color because with the TC it's a bold and vibrant green. It takes about 5 minutes of fishing to get adjusted to the color scheme. The LX-3 has delivered for me from the get go and the boys liked TC diplay so much that 3 of my buddies units are going in for the upgrade at the end of the season, they love mine with the new digs...

Just an update.

I called Marcum customer service and they are shipping a new ducer to me. I asked a lot of questions and probably became a pain to the guy who picked up the phone, but I have to say they'll darned near bend over backwards to help a customer get back up and running.

The only thing I forgot to ask was for him to send me a copy of an owner's manual for an LX3tc. The manual that came with mine was for the old LX3 and doesn't explain anything about the colors in the upgrade. Is there any info in the newer manuals about the color upgrade that I need to know to operate the unit properly? Or is there a new manual that I might be able to check online?

Hate to call them back to send a new manual if it's not necessary cause I feel like a pain in the neck already.

And thanks for all the help from you guys. It's appreciated.
