0 eyechaser99
I have had trouble with my vexilar earlier this year too. I was outside for a couple hours and the colors on the screen kept going round in a circle. I charged it the night before that too and it still acted up. I then went with it in my house with heater and it worked good the whole time. It could just be the weather or wind hitting it or have some water on the battery. 0 Jason Durham
The transducer should have sound coming from it, that's the actual signal that's going through the water and coming back to be received. If there is another unit nearby, you may be getting interference from that. One of the issues with today's electronics is that they operate within a small range of 200k, making interference an issue for all electronics companies and thus all anglers. Please don't take offense if I suggest a problem solving technique that you've already tried or are aware of. Did you make sure the transducer is level in the hole? If the styrofoam float is pulled by a transducer cable that's wrapped too short, the signal won't shoot straight down.Is the transducer deep enough in the hole? If the ice is thick and the transducer's high, the ice will interfere with the cone angle. Are you in thick weeds or shallow water? And if so, which transducer do you have, 9, 12, or 19? Is this an fl-8 or fl-18?
0 Jason Durham
eyechaser,Your unit shouldn't be affected by the wind or cold like that. When the colors go around, it's the wheel moving slowly, indicating that your battery is low. Even though you charged it the night before, it's not putting out the proper load. Try a new battery and that should take care of the problem.
0 metrojoe
It not only puts out a small buzzing sound, but it should also have a ticking sound. Anyways, all good info above, it sounds like a bad battery. But give the other suggestions a try first, because those are free.
0 eyechaser99
Who carries Vexilar batteries with the red and black on top?
0 Yellow Dog
Thanks for the input - tried a new battery--nothing. Same interference...couldn't even see a jigging spoon on it. Goofy. But then I tried the "Let's-take-it-in-the-house-overnight" trick and of course, it worked fine the next day.A panic over nothing...but now it's a mystery... 0 Powerstroke
WHen I see lines rotating around the screeen of my Vex it always is cured immediately by the IR button. I've tested this theory with a buddy of mine who has an old Silex (sp?). His flasher is older and therefore can't change "channels". Mine is only 1 yr old so I use the interference rejection (IR) and both our screens clear up.
0 Blackduck
Sounds like moisture somehow got inside the unit??? Try leaving it outside again and then try it. Just an idea. Might not ever happen again.
0 Jason Durham
BlackduckI agree. That seems like a logical explanation for the unit working indoors and not outdoors.
