basser
Dietz , I am thinking about trying the new style Citica. Any feedback on it? Is it as good as the Curado CU200BSF that I have several of now? I see that it looks like the weights of the new curado's has gone up by almost an ounce-any reasons why? I would think that they would try to get lighter not heavier. Thanks for your advice in advance.
Deitz Dittrich
The reason the new reels are heavier is because they now have the HEG gears. These are some of the best gears on the market now. The new Citica on paper, should outperform the old Curado BSF, however I have not been able to compare them side by side. Shimano is not about to take a step back, they are looking into the future. I realise that the weight has gone up, but to have the quality gears that they used to only offer in the $300 reels and up now in a reel that is Only $120 is a step in the right direction, even if it makes the reel 1 oz heavier. the gears in the new Citica should be FAR better than the old BSF curado.just my opinion! Deitz Dittrich
LOL @ RW, dude, don't you put words in my mouth.. I am already getting flammed in the disscussion forum from somone who misunderstood what I had said.. Just like with anything though, newer you hope is taking a step in the right direction. And I feel shimano did this.
basser
Thanks Deitz - I am going to pick one up to try. What do you recommend for a matching rod to use for scumfrogs . I have a heavy action HMG that is really hard to cast when using those lighter frogs- pretty stiff tip. Recommendations? Thanks
Deitz Dittrich
Basser- Any higher mod. graphite Rod will be a good bet. Usually the higher mod. graphite rods have plenty of back bone but a nice fast and soft tip. My Scum frog rod is a 7' MH Shimano Compre.. But a St.Croix Avid would be good too... or a Fenwick HMG but in a MH would do you well...Pair it with at least 50 lb braid and you will be a happy boy.. The reason the heavier braid is so that it doesnt dig into its self each time your bait gets stuck in the thick stuff.. thinner braids will dig into its self and on your next cast you will backlash! cjac
I love the good old green Curados, but I might have to give one of these a try! Shimano was a "gear" company before launching into fishing in 1970s, so you have to believe they know what they're doing with the inside of the reel! They're not just catching us in the store with a flashy outside reel housing. Deitz.....I feel like I should buy you a beer after the "heat" you took on that other discussion! I heard what you were trying to say!
svttom01
I believe Cabela's has a deal on the new Citicas. I believe you get a $120 Citica and $140 Cabelas XML rod for only $140. I don't know much about the rod, but for $20 above the cost of a Citica, you can't go wrong.
Deitz Dittrich
The XML rod is a very quality rod! I believe its IM7 or 8 maybe even.
beeflover
thanks for the tip, I just rode down to Owatonna and bought 2, a 7' mdhvy and a 6 1/2 ft mdhvy. The reels look solid and the rods are great and w life time guarantee
