Braided line with vanish?

Iron Cowboy

Question

Allright guys, I'm convinced I should try either power pro or fireline for more sensitivity. How exactly do you connect the vanish type line for the leader ? Trying to tie one to the other seems like a real pain. Someone said attach them with a swivel, now that sounds like a nice simple way and I could have other ones ready for a quick change. but wont it take away from the whole purpose of having better feel? What do you do??

Lot's of ways to skin a cat but...

Trolling hardbaits I just tie a snap directly to 14# fireline and attach the plug.

Rigging with Powerpro mainline I tie in swivel with palomar knot, then run mono or floro to hook or whatnot.

Jigging with Powerpro if I wanna tie in a section of mono/floro I use that fun to tie back to back uni knot.

I fish LOTW and our water is stained good. I like that Powerpro for its better handling charecteristics when jigging/rigging. I still prefer the Fireline for trolling as we have a pile of Jackfish in the lake and the Fireline seems a bit more bite resistant per given line strength than the PP.

I use mono more than braids for the rig and jig things. Deep water and/or heavy current situations is when I'll break out a spare spool with a braid on it for those techniques. I think just as you have better feel of the fish with the braids, the fish also has better feel of you too. Also some strech in the line can be a good thing sometimes when playing fish.

Lot's of ways to skin a cat though!

Have fun in your experimentations....fiskyknut

For jigging what I have done in the past was to tie the superline to a barrel swivel and then to a 2' to 6' mono or flourocarbon leader then the jig.

For rigging I have used a quick change clevis on the superline then tie on a quality ball bearing snap swivel. I change the weights quickly by snapping them into the clevis. It works as a sliding sinker.

For trolling bouncers and cranks I use a snap swivel or just a snap.

I have had 2 spools of Vanish and had tough luck with the stuff. I would recommend P-line flouroclear as the leader material when tying onto a jig. I think it is easier to work with and has better knot strength. Otherwise I would use mono.

92Python, that quick change clevis sinker deal is just way to slick. Everyone I've shown that to that does'nt know of it just loves it. The bouncers I use are all straight shaft, with loop at top and I put them on the same type clevis, you then have a slip bouncer eh. Works so slick for switching sizes of weights or switching from bouncers to walking sinkers, nosnaggs and such. Another benefit is the clevis will break instead of the knot breaking at the swivel iffin you snagup your weight, lose alot less rigs and spinners this way.

Setting your drag a bit looser might help you a bit in playing a fish, I forgot how much stretch there was in regular mono, since most of my rods had powerpro or fireline. Becareful to not rip it out of their mouths with lack of stretch.

Personally I've tried tying mono to fireline or PP, and it doesn't hold like I'd like it to, so I use a small swivel.

The inf on rigging up / changing out sinkers sounds pretty slick but I can't picture this in my pea-brain. Can someone explain this in a bit more detail? Thanks for the info.

Rad, On your running line off of the reel, slip on one of those quick change clevis's, then tie in your swivel, then your rig, snell, or spinner. Weights clip onto the clevis.

mnrstrider, key words....'good thing sometimes'. Wetting your knots before you cinch them down may help.

Do you guys usually use swivles fishing walley?

Or are there certain times you would tie directly to the line?

I have always used swivles and braided line for everything and never had any issues...but I am still learning!!!! I don't know if there is any effects of a swivle that I don't know about.....
